Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"...hey, Kurt," said Libby, finding herself greeting him back in a much more reserved way that she'd imagined would when she'd see him at the picnic, her head tilted curiously. But she did meet his smile with a much brighter one than his. "I'm glad, too, but I don't think Ms. Beniko would have wanted us to miss it, and then my little sibling would have been all out of luck, too!"

Actually, it was pretty clear to anyone keeping an eye on her, which Libby absolutely was, that Charlie would have been perfectly fine all on her own.

"How are you?"

That definitely seemed the bigger question here! Unless maybe he was just tired? She wasn't sure if 'tired' was possible for Kurt!

"I'm good.." he said. He looked at her and gave a sigh. He knew he was going to get the sibling look... that she saw right through him and he sighed.

"Eh, nothing big. Just found out some... ummm.... interesting things about my little sib I got paired up with."

That was one way to put it.

Libby would like to protest that it was far more the Concerned Friend look than the Sibling look, but they were probably pretty similar, so she couldn't really blame Kurt on that one.

The worried widening of her eyes, however, could only>/i> be Concerned Friend, though.

"Oh....no." Was that the right response to something like that? "Er...interesting....how?"

"Ummmm found out evidently she's my daughter.... from some other timeline..... where I'm older, married, and yeah...." Kurt gave a weak shrug because really? What do you do with a response like that?

Just when Libby didn't think her eyes could get any wider.

"Your daughter?"

And once Libby actually did see TJ, it would definitely seem a bit...well....obvious, but that absolutely would not make it any easier to actually understand.

"Yeah. Supposedly she's my daughter in the timeline she is from," Kurt said shaking his head, still finding it hard to believe. "I mean she LOOKS like me so... it's logical. But stiiillll... hard to believe I have a family out there somewhere. AND I'm Field Leader for the X-Men and everything!"

Did he look a little frazzled and dizzy? Cuz he felt a little frazzled and dizzy.

He had every right to look frazzled and dizzy, and Libby was almost tempted to get up to go get him a glass of water or something. But, instead, she tried her best to sort through some of this.

"Well, that's not really surprising," she pointed out. "You were in the X-Men in the future, and you had a family, but I thought you had a son?"

Maybe this was another child, from even further along in the future.

"Yeah true... I think it is more that I never thought.... Id like meet them. Right now. Here in Fandom? Right now as a 15 year old. I mean, shes a year old than I am!"

Libby shook her head a little at that. If she was having a hard time wrapping her head around this, she couldn't even begin to imagine what it must feel like for Kurt right now!

Or for his daughter! Imagine showing up to school, and your father was there, only somehow younger than you! Libby couldn't even think of her father as a teenager, let alone at high school!

"That's...." She started, but she honestly didn't know what to say. "That's...wild, Kurt. That definitely blows something like just some little trip to space way out of the water. Is she nice, at least?"

As soon as she asked it, she quickly rectified it with another shake of her head. "Of course she would be," she decided, before he could even answer, "if she has you for a father."

"I... she seemed nice enough. I think she was just... a bit overwhelmed by it all" Kurt said, trying not to sound too mean or judgmental or anything.

It hadn't gone quite how he had thought it would. But it hadn't gone too terribly either. And they had the entire semester right?

"Well, who can really blame her?" Libby reasoned. "I'd be pretty overwhelmed, too, if I showed up at my new school and found my father already enrolled, not to mention younger than me...."
