Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

Honestly, after the morning he'd had, Watts wasn't even sure what he was doing here, except that there was free food and he was loathe to turn that down. So he'd just be lurking on the edges, hands stuffed into his pockets and hunched down perhaps even more than he normally was.

Free food was always a plus. And being awkward was something Stark strongly identified with. He was always awkward.

"Hello, Watts."

Usually Watts covered his awkward by bustling about like he owned the place. But not today. "Stark," he nodded, the tension in his shoulders easing ever so slightly at the familiar face. Most of a face.

Stark tended to shrink in on himself, or get very fidgety, or babble. He wasn't nervous right now, at least, so he could offer a smile on that most of a face.

"You're not teaching, are you?"

Oh, Watts was well accustomed with the urge to shrink in on oneself.

"No. Just. I- heard there was food."

"Plenty of food," Stark agreed. Probably even some things considered street food!

"I just wondered. I am, again. With Summer."

No pretzels, alas. Though he'd brought one from home, looped on to his pocketwatch chain, so that was okay.

"... Voluntarily?" Look, Stark liked good food (aside from cake batter based drinks). Summer liked- well, he didn't think she actually liked the foods featured in her classes, but she liked horrifying people with them.

"She asked me to." And Stark was easy like that. He didn't want to disappoint anyone. "So yes, voluntarily."

And one of the classes wasn't even food related, not that Watts knew that.

"That's good, then," he nodded. "Keeping busy." Maybe he should have looked into teaching something? But what?

"I do better when I keep busy," Stark admitted. "Much better. And Summer is a friend. Always good to spend time with her."

Whether he would still think that after a couple of classes remained to be seen.
