Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"TJ!" She reached out to sketch a quick charm on her plate. Hey, TJ already knew and no one wanted any of those desserts to end up on the ground.

"And yes, other dimensions. Just look around! ISn't it awesome?" She looked at TJ curiously. "It is aweseom, isn't it?"

TJ gave her a deadpan look. "My 'big sibling' is my father. He's younger than I am."

"What?" Charlie could immediately see the horror of this. "No! That's, that's beyond terrible. Horrific. What's even worse than that?"

"Wait..." Her mind was working on all of this. "Does he know? That he's, well, going to be your father? Oooh! Do you think your mother is here somewhere? Sorry, that's not helpful."

"Kind of hard to avoid, what with the..." She waved at herself. "Oh, god, she'd better not be." TJ was glad that Charlie could at least appreciate the gravity of the situation.

"What am I supposed to do now?" Apart from eat another brownie, which she was absolutely doing.

"Avoid, avoid, avoid?" Charlie said. "Hide out in my room? Tell him your father is a different blue person?"

"I mean, he probably is a different version," TJ said. "As far as I know, the first my dad ever came to this country was as an adult. Which doesn't mean I will not absolutely be hiding out in your room if he finds mine. Ugh!"

She took a deep breath and let it out. "What about you - no hidden aunties, I hope?"

Charlie gasped. "You take that back! I swear they'll hear you and get ideas!" She looked around a little nervously.

"Definitely hide out in my room, good lord, we can't have your teenage, pre-you dad hanging around!"

Except of course, where Charlie had already met him and just wasn't putting two and two together... Still, solidarity!

Did you know that many blue people, Charlie?

"I don't know whether to worry about him being disappointed in me, or to tell him to go play with kids his age," she said. TJ, you were one entire year older.

"No more joking about you-know-who, promise," she added with a nod. Never give witches ideas.

Hey, it's Fandom, who knew?

"Hah! Well, at least you're older - does that make it better or worse? At least you don't have to listen to him, right?"

"Okay, yeah, that is definitely a plus," TJ admitted. "I hadn't thought of it that way. I mean, he's supposed to help me settle in, but once I'm settled in I never have to see him again, right? Definitely don't have to do what he says. He's just a kid!"

That did make it a bit easier.

"Very true," Charlie agreed. "He's not the boss of you! He didn't even know you existed. Would exist? Whatever. So, you're golden!"

"Right." TJ did another deep breath. "I can do this. Anyway, the food's good." She went for a cookie, nudging the plate toward Charlie in question. "And my roommate seems okay, just a bit jumpy."

Charlie took the cookie happily. "These are delicious. Have you noticed how good the food is here? So, jumpy? Who are they?"

"Allie." TJ looked around and pointed at her. "Don't think she wanted to be here, but she's not bad ~~so far, since we're still playing it out~~. I saw you got Meeka?"

"Oh yeah, she didn't seem happy about being here at all," Charlie said. "Meeka's great though. We both have Auntie issues."

"Oh, no," TJ said, laughing. "Maybe you can defend each other then."

"Hey, we're counting on you for back-up since you'll be hiding in our room from your father," Charlie pointed out.

"Absolutely!" TJ promised, grinning. "It'll be a family free zone."

"The three of us against the encroachment of our families," Charlie said cheerfully.

"Hell yeah." TJ grinned back.
