Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

Beta still wasn't sure how ready she was for more socializing, because this was literally a higher concentration of people in one relatively small place than she'd ever been around in her entire life.

But she could see the Sunwing perched atop one of the trees, which meant that Aloy wasn't far away, and that was plenty of reassurance in itself. (The glitter, though... nothing could reassure her about that.)

She had a small plate of food that she was nibbling from, bird-like, and just observing everything.

"That is totally not enough food," Charlie said as she wandered over. "How will you know what's good and what to avoid for next time?"

She looked at her plate consideringly. "Or what to shove everyone out of the way to get at first for? Which might just be these little round tasty things. Want to try one?"

"Optimal balance of nutrients, consumed as efficiently as possible," said Beta, who really needed to learn to live a little. "People don't really fight over the food here, do they?"

"Given that there's enough here to feed several armies? I don't think so. Plus, I have it on good authority that there's always plenty of food in the common rooms or someone cooking somewhere." She held up a hand quickly. "Not me. That won't ever be me, no worries."

She tilted her head. "I think you definitely need a little upgrade in your diet. Let me think... have you ever had a chocolate chip cookie? Warm from the oven?" She could easily warm the cookie. "Or a mini cream puff?"

"I haven't had any of those, no," admitted Beta. She recognized the names, at least, from some of the old holos she'd managed to dig up. "Desserts. Nothing especially fancy, but more like... a comfort food?"

Charlie nodded. "Comfort foods are awesome. If you promise to actually taste and savor it, I will give you an amazing chocolate chip cookie. But you can't just nibble for nutrients, you have to let your mouth completely enjoy it."

She slid one from her plate, sketching a charm to heat it and increase the aroma a little.

"Want it? You won't be sorry."
