Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

Sidon was, of course, back from using the break as an opportunity to go fulfil some of his more princely duties, just in time to be very large and very noticeable to be pointed out to newbies. It was practically tradition! And even though he'd now been to many a welcome picnic as both student and teacher, and they didn't really change much, he was still looking about with a pleased, impressed sort of look and the occasional declaration of "Magnificent!" and "Spectacular!" whenever he felt so inspired.

Which was often.

Also, there was pizza, and that was always a highlight for him, too.

That was...That was...That was a shark. Man. Shark man. Man shark?

That was a bipedal shark - was he wearing epaulets?! - looking around and smiling and also speaking which meant that he was also also breathing and...

Meeka was starting to get the impression that she owed Charlie an apology.

The shark man/man shark was wearing epaulets! And breathing! How very nice of Meeka to notice!

And he certainly noticed her, too, meeting her glance with a very bright, very toothy smile.

"Hello, there!" he called out to her. "Are you enjoying yourself at this very wonderful Welcome Picnic?"

And now the epaulet-wearing, air-breathing man shark/ shark man was talking to her. For a brief second, Meeka considering running - not out of fear, exactly (though those were some impressively pointy teeth), but because he was battering at the last few defenses her brain had about the world being exactly like she had always assumed it had been, and that was not a pleasant feeling.

Except! She was Princess Meeka Njeri Kirabo Joffer and Joffers didn't run away. Ignore the fact that she was in America right now. That wasn't running away, that was a strategic repositioning.

So instead, she lifted her chin, squared her shoulders, and closed the distance between herself and this...perfectly normal gentleman with an, err, lovely smile "I am certainly adjusting," she said, with a polite nod as she came closer. "There is much to adjust to, it seems. Are you also a, ah, student?"

"It can be," Sidon's chuckle was a warm, agreeing one, as he positively beamed down at the girl as she came closer, "quite the experience, especially at first, but once the shock of it wears off, it's really quite the magnificent place! And I was a student here, many, many years ago...although I will admit, not so many years here as it was for me back home!...and now I have the prodigious honor of being one of the fine, upstanding teachers on our rather impressive faculty! Allow me to introduce myself!"

And with that particular thrill that still infused him with each and every introduction, he declared, "I am Sidon!" His fist pumped across his broad chest and his flashing grin managed to find the perfect light to catch on the end of his fangs. "The Zora Prince! And who might you be, new friend?"

Meeka had to bite back the instinctive Princess that leapt into her mouth. She'd had to do that a lot today, as it had been part of introducing herself since she'd been old enough to toddle after her parents, but it especially difficult when meeting yet another head of state. "Meeka Joffer," she said, extending her hand while offering him a regal nod. "It is my honor to make your acquaintance, Your Highness. May I ask what it is that you teach?"

Although formalities tended to be quite different in Hyrule, Sidon found himself taking the offered hand lightly in his own and bowing to it in greeting, which was no small thing, it was a very long way for him to bow down! "The honor is all mine, Meeka Joffer!" he said, with all sincerity and all smiles. "And I am currently teaching the history of my home world, a far-distant land called Hyrule, and all of its fascinating legends and tales! I am a great storyteller, you see, and it is a particular pleasure to be able to share with the people here at this marvelous school all those marvelous adventures! I did teach various summertime and aquatic arts this last semester, too, and that was a rather thrilling departure from my usual repertoire, but it's a bit harder to pull that off for the fall semester, the winters here do get rather a bit chilly for such things!

"And where is it that you hail from, Meeka Joffer? Are you from this very Earth, or some other far-flung place like my own Hyrule?"

"Until the shuttle, I did not know there were any Earths other than this one," Meeka admitted, not yet aware she wasn't on her own Earth anymore, either. "Never mind world more far flung that that. I knew that coming to America would bring many adjustments and surprises, but I had not realized that they would be this large nor this soon."

For example, talking to royal shark-men had not been in any of her plans and yet, here she was.

"I am from Zamunda, which is a country in Africa." She had been expecting to supply that to everyone she'd met, but more because people were bad at geography, rather than because they were from entirely different planes of existence.

And this particular royal shark-man was very large indeed.

"Oh, Africa!" Sidon beamed with pleased recognition. "We actually took a school trip there in the spring semester, Tanzania and Kenya, to be specific, though I understand that is just a small portion of that particular continent. I must say, as vast and expansive as Hyrule has always seemed to me, it is nothing compared to how truly massive this planet it is! But I do rather love to travel, and I hope that, one day, I may be so lucky as to see all of it! Perhaps, should I make my way to Zamunda, you can make some excellent recommendations for things that I truly cannot miss out on! And I will happily offer you the same should you ever have the fortune to visit my homeworld as well! I do love making excursions out there, I shall be sure to let you know of the next one if you are interested, Meeka Joffer!"

"Oh!" Somehow the possibility of being able to travel to these other places had escaped her. "Zamunda would be most honored to play host to your most gracious personage, and to have the chance to visit would be most agreeable. I have not had the pleasure of traveling beyond our borders much, so the chance to see more of the..." She isn't sure what the proper word is since 'world' is clearly not it "...homes that birthed so many of the people here."
