The Art of Haiku; Monday, Second Period [08/15].
One last time for the summer, meeting under the tree in the park by the duck pond, and on the right day this time, too, with some tea and little concern for the light rain that had been falling all morning. It just meant that Shunsui would do a bit of minor tweaking to his lesson plan (in so far as he had a lesson plan, anyway) to make it a bit more...well, thematic.
"Ohayō gozaimasu, ducklings ♥," he greeted them with his sleepy smile, a duck of his head, and already set to pouring out some tea to distribute to those who would wish to partake. "Hard to believe it will be our last class meeting for the summer already, neh ♥? I was thinking of perhaps squeezing in another focus on a specific poet for our final lesson, but I've decided to be a little more...topical ♥. After all, one of the key elements of haiku is its focus on nature, and so, with a little bit of a rain, we'll take that as inspiration, and go over a few rain-driven haiku to help hopefully inspire our own ♥.
"Let's begin, shall we ♥?"

Shunsui cleared his throat, more for dramatics than anything else, and recited:
"Early summer rains
so heavy
they obscure the waterfall
"In Spring rain
a pretty girl
yawning."
"I'm sure," he then broke off with a faint chuckle, "if you remember much about their style, you can tell which is from which poet ♥. But now, these two, from Yosa Buson, one of which is a bit of a favorite of mine:
"In the summer rain
the path
has disappeared.
"A summer river being crossed
how pleasing
with sandals in my hands!
"And, from Masaoka Shiki:
"Night; and once again,
the while I wait for you, cold wind
turns into rain."
"And one more Bashō, to wrap us up:
"In the twilight rain
these brilliant-hued hibiscus -
A lovely sunset."
He let the final poem linger a little, with a long sip of his tea, giving everyone a moment to let the poetry sink in or just to enjoy world around them before prompting, "So? Any thoughts ♥? Do you suppose rain makes for a good subject for a haiku? What sort of feelings and impressions do you get from some of the poems? Do you have one you particular like or dislike? Any and all thoughts are, of course, welcome, before we go tackle some rain poems of our own ♥."

Went through at least a few parchments, before he was finally satisfied, and proudly presented the paper to the class before clearing his throat, turning it toward himself, and read,
"Rain on the rooftop
The stable is warm and dry
Adventure on pause."
And then he grinned broadly, already looking forward to when class got over and he could go see Triumph at the stables, and share it with him, and then make it a reality by hanging out with his trusty steed for the rest of the day, probably.
