"Today I'd like you guys to update me on the research you've done for your projects." Jenny glanced around the room. "And if you haven't chosen a final project, then we need to talk. Stat."

"I am going to be doing mine on Alchemy and I am currently looking into possibly replicating an old formula and comparing it to a modern day chemistry formula. That's about as far as I have gotten on my research."

"That's a good start," said Jenny. "Do you have a direction you want to go on the comparison? Mathematical, or effects-based?"

"I think more along the lines of effect based. How they used pain killers and we use aspirin. Not that that is what I am using but along those lines as far as a comparison." She said nervous that Ms. Calendar was going to disapprove it now. She was always so nervous talking to her.

Jenny nodded. "I think that'll work. Let me know if you need some extra help with the alchemy." She smiled at Maia. "You've improved a lot over the course of the semester, Maia. Good job."

Maia smiled up at Jenny. "Thank you Ms. Calendar. I will."

"I've mainly been reading stuff on the web," Bel admitted. "I need to get to the library and look for some books on the medieval witch craze."

"Are any of them sources you can cite properly?" asked Jenny. "I have nothing against web sources if they're legitimate ones. Books might give you another perspective, though, which will help."

"I found the Malleus Maleficarum online," Bel said. "But I'm not sure about the rest." He grinned sheepishly. "Guess I've been slacking a little. But I'm gonna hit the library tomorrow."

"A little?" asked Jenny, grinning wryly. "Just be sure you've got your focus picked out and your sources nice and cited by the time the presentation comes due."

"Pretty much what he said." Xander jerked a thumb in Belthazor's direction. "I've been looking up parallel universe stories online, but it's mostly either straight-up fiction, or stuff that you can't verify is true, so it's not real great for making comparisons. I think what I'm looking for is history on somebody who had prophecies made about them, and in one dimension they came true, and in another they didn't."

[ooc- aaaand Xander's actually been doing more RP'd research than I've been doing RL thinking on it, so far. I'm thinking possibly he'll clue in that 'Buffy dying at the master's hands except not' would be a good example, vs. the Wishverse, but it might take poking about in Special Collections for him to find out more about the WV than the barest details that they got from Vamp Willow.]

"There are some websites out there that have the real deal, but they're hard to get to. Also, they mostly require passwords," said Jenny. "You maybe wanna hit Special Collections soon."

OOC: Ooh, that sounds so very cool.

"I'm interested in the theory behind transformation magic," Kiki says, "Sort of as an offshoot of Alchemy. I'm not sure I'd be allowed...but could I do a very small demonstration of it?"

[ooc: I know! I was going to email you about this. I'm bad :( It would be something very simple, like changing the color of a piece of paper, and nothing would go wrong in the demo, so no wacky hijinks or drama.]

"I think a demonstration would be okay--if we went over the details first," said Jenny. "What would your focus of the presentation be?"

OOC: Take your time!

"From what I've researched so far, Alchemy seems to be a sort of duality - first there the chemistry aspect of it, which is what most people focus on, but there's also the magical componant of it - the act of magically changing the properties of an object," Kiki outlined her idea.

"That's a pretty broad definition," said Jenny. "Try and focus in a little bit more on the specifics."

"I've also been using the internet for research," Piper explained. "I'm hoping to find something in the library, too."

"Let me know if you need to do research in Special Collections," said Jenny. "So what have you found online?"

Cordelia walked over to Ms Calendar and smiled apologetically. "So, uh. I haven't chosen a final project!" she said with a cheesy smile.

"You haven't," said Jenny. Wow, did she know that smile. "In fact, you've kinda been pretty gone for a while."

OOC: You're back, yay! *glomps*

"Uh, yeah. I had to go back to LA for awhile. It was unexpected," she said. She didn't mention that it was because she had totally freaked out, not because of any real emergency.

"Notifying your teachers? Generally a good idea," said Jenny. "I've been hoping you weren't a mysterious, Sunnydale-type disappearance."

Cordelia cringed. Ms Calendar was right, she should have had enough presence of mind to tell more than just her friends that she was leaving. And even then, maybe more than an email would be good.

"I know. I'm sorry."
