"Today's class shall be about..." Yennefer sighed. "Conflict resolution. Because apparently you want to resolve your conflicts, not win a fight."

"She thinks winning a resolving a conflict means going scorched earth," Jaskier whispered in a way that wasn't at all a whisper.

"I think 'trying to see the other person's point of view' is pointless, is what I think."

Jaskier definitely rolled his eyes at that, but this was just how they got along. By being the very best frenemies. "Now, the book we found on this suggests using 'I feel' statements," he said. "Which are meant to help you understand the other person's point of view."

"Which makes even less sense than the last time we discussed 'I' statements," Yennefer said crossly, "because how is telling someone how you feel supposed to make you understand them?" It was called listening, Yennefer. You could try it.

"Well, maybe if you listened to them," Jaskier suggested as though he was reading that narrative!

Yennefer waved that off. "Whatever. I feel like this is a waste of time, but...practice your 'I feel' statements."

Nell always found the teachers amusing, but wasn't sure they were teaching much about actual relationship skills here.

Still, she'd made a connection with Marc here and through him Steven and Liz and possibly Detective Watts, so she supposed she had nothing to complain about.

Maybe this was one of those weird immersion type classes? Maybe the goal was to teach good relationship skills by exposing them every day to bad exampled of relationship skills? Billy's guess was as good as anyone's as he sat and listened to the.... lecture/arguing?

Marc felt that Yennefer already covered his answer so, yet again, he said nothing.

Nell slid over a cupcake with a blueberry and cotton candy jam inside and blue raspberry flavored icing with blue sprinkles on top.

Marc looked at it, then at her curiously. "Blue?"

"Stark is working his way through the colors." She shrugged. "Today was blue."

"Got it," Marc said. Then, perhaps because someone silently but firmly nudged him in the back of his mind, he remembered to pretend like he had manners and said, "Thanks."

Her lips quirked at his thank you. "Welcome," she said. "Got to make some vegan ones for Steven."

"This tastes good so I'm guessing it's not one of them," Marc replied. Hey, he had coffee with him, why not have the cupcake as well?

"I'll have you know that even my vegan cupcakes are tasty, Mr. Spector," Nell said in her best high-falutin' tone. "At least now that I've got my recipe right."

Some of her early attempts were downright ugly tasting. The birds got those.

"I'll let Steven be the judge," Marc said. He was generous like that.

"Mmmhmm. I see you doubt my abilities." He might just accidentally be getting a vegan treat one of these days

"I doubt any vegan baked goods are ever that good," Marc told her. Mind you, he hadn't tried many on principle. The principle being he assumed they were awful.

"They do take some serious testing," Nell agreed, "But it can be done."


There's a place near me that makes the most amazing vegan brownies! So moist and rich and delicious. Their gluten free cupcakes are a tad on the dry side, but the brownies are unbelievable.
