Paleontology, April 19th, 7th Period

"Okay, guys... today?" Tommy grins, and absolutely does not snicker or glance at the classroom loudspeaker. "I want you to come up with a theory as to how the tyrannosaurus, mastodon, saber-toothed tiger, pterodactyl, and triceratops could have all co-existed. Bonus points for telling me which colour you associate with each of those."

Near the end of the class period, he adds, "for extra credit, see if you can find something prehistoric in the woods, and bring it to class on Monday."

"Um, sir?" Rory said, raising her hand. "We know they didn't coexist."

Molly raised her hand as well. "What Rory said."

"Um, no, they're from completely different periods," Rory replied. "Tyranosaurus and triceratops are from the Cretaceous period, mastodon is from the Paleoindian period, saber-toothed tiger is from the Pleistocene epoch, and pterodactyl is from the later Cretaceous and Jurassic."

Rory blushed. "Yeah, I, um, meant that the other way around," she amended. "It looks like a dinosaur. But they were just reptiles who could fly, right?"

Molly also answer Dr. Oliver. "They all could have been frozen in ice or something and then thawed out and revived at the same time?" she said.

"Aliens with a time-travel machine," said Janet promply. "I have no clue about the colors, though."

Janet blinked and looked flabbergasted. "Really?" She knows she's potentially not wrong, but she didn't expect anyone else to actually think it was a possiblity. "Thanks."

"They're all robotic?" Sharon hazarded. "Like the Cylons, except that would mean they'd evolved and started creating their own robots." She considered, "I think all dinosaurs like green."
