Completely Unsafe Science With Beaker, Tuesday, July 19, 2022
There were a few things to notice coming into the Danger Shop for class today. The first was a giant "MELT OR BURN?!" sign over a metal contraption with two giant flame-throwers rigged up to it. The second was a large robot with a metal arm holding a fire extinguisher.
Safety first, kids! Or third. Or maybe tenth?
Beaker stepped up to the table and began speaking. "Meep meep mee meep meep mee!" he began, holding up a not-terribly flattering drawing of Joe from Legal, who had had Concerns about this lesson. "Meep meep meep mee." Beaker's voice turned mocking. "Meep meep meep meep meep meep meep meep!"
Joe thought something would explode, like that wasn't the entire purpose of Science! But Joe had insisted that Beaker pass on the word from Legal: a big piece of paper that read "DON'T", which he held up. "Meep meep meep meep meep," Beaker added, moving on and waving at Dum-E, who waved back with the fire extinguisher.
See? Beaker had other science-based friends well-versed in fire safety! Let's set some stuff on fire, kids!
There was a lovely selection of moddable items, including steel wool, marshmallows, metal pans, ugly sweaters, and that picture of Joe from Legal. Beaker had also wheeled in a chalkboard labeled "MELT" and "BURN" at the top to record the findings! Because if you wrote it down, it was science. If you set things on fire for fun, it was pyromania.

Listen to the lecture!
FIRE!
If it burns or melts too much, Dum-E will use the fire extinguisher on it, you, and anything close to it and you.
Expect to be covered in fire-retardant foam is what we're saying here.
Re: FIRE!
And so when that picture of Joe from Legal wound up among the items to be burned, that terrible thought had been horrifyingly confirmed, and she had no choice but to make the first thing she did was to go and rescue that picture, unflattering as it was, and positively cling to it protectively, as if to suggest to anyone who so much as thought of doing such a horrible thing such as burning or melting it, well....they'd have to burn and melt her, too!
And she had plenty of bandages on her hands from yesterday to prove that she clearly didn't fear pain and suffering for the sake of protecting cuteness!
Re: FIRE!
Re: FIRE!
She was okay. She was okay now that the picture was safe. And so she nodded, stiffly, with a faint, affirming "Mmm."
The little ghost of being a better communicator, though, whispered in her brain to urge her to say maybe a bit more than that, and she looked down at the picture.
"I didn't...want him to get hurt," she explained.
Yes, it was just a picture.
But it was also a principle.
Re: FIRE!
Re: FIRE!
"Oh," she said. "My hands...they're fine. I'm...working on my communication skills."
A pause.
"With the cats."
Another pause, probably only just proving the fact that 'working on her communication skills' was a much needed endeavor.
"At the shelter."
That obviously cleared things up perfectly, didn't it?

Re: FIRE!
Especially since those bandages would be right back in place again next week, probably.
Re: FIRE!
So he decided to see what would happen if he got a metal pan in the contraption to see what would happen.
He got his answer when it started to burn just a bit too much.
“Oops,” he blinked a bit.
Re: FIRE!
Melt or burn, Goose? Or both?

And surreptitiously slip one of his UMF gloves into the pile, just to see what Beaker's reaction would be, since they wouldn't burn or melt.
Well, theoretically.
