Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, July 13, 2022

Anakin was back today, so your Wednesdays were about to get a lot less fun and little more insane. And your shirts will be terrifying again.

Stark, we'll miss you.

"Today, inspired by a conversation with Stark and a collaboration with local food vendors, we will do food-based games!" Anakin yelled through his megaphone. "Listen for your names!"

Yes, one of the shirts was a repeat. Anakin had a lot of Taco Cat. He also, strangely, had a lot of a shirts with a former Fandom mayor's face on it. He didn't ask questions, he just passed out the polyblend.

You and your partner (Clare & Jo; Rosa & Guillermo; Graham & Stark; Vi & Sakaki) will join up for a wheelbarrow race across the field. One team member is holding the other the team member by the ankles or calves while the other is in a handstand position. As you move along the race, the bottom member of the wheelbarrow must eat eight Moobyburgers placed in a line on the ground for them.

Mmm, hygienic.

Rosa took a moment to consider she'd wound up in another partnered activity, and that she wasn't even directly competing with Blackstone for it this time, and sighed as she told herself she had got to stop letting that woman talk her into this.

(Even if actually, yes, it had definitely been Rosa's idea in the first place).

She then looked at her partner for a moment and just simply stated, "Well you're clearly the wheelbarrow."

Rosa.

“Um…okay,” Guillermo half squeaked out, “I mean I can do that - I really like eating, I mean I’ve never done anything like this before but I can eat … really quickly as well,” he babbled, pushing his glasses up from where they had slid off his nose as he nose as he tried to not to feel so nervous.

Sorry Rosa.

Rosa was very proud of herself for not commenting further on Guillermo liking to eat, and felt that everyone else should be proud of her restraint in that moment, too.

Although her face was still kind of making that comment for her.

"You're going to lose those glasses, kid," she warned, before taking a moment to nod toward the line of burgers and then held up her hands to show she was ready to take the wheelbarrow 'handles.' "Come on. I could use a good arm workout today, anyway."

Look. She was trying, okay?

Guillermo was trying to not feel nervous as he went over to start getting ready to be the wheelbarrow

“Um … I’m also not very ...well …er flexible,” Guillermo admitted, which would have totally been new information to Rosa.

"We'll make it work," said Rosa, practically before Guillermo even finished, because the nature of the excuse itself didn't really matter to her, she could tell it was an excuse right out the gate.

And, whether he was ready or not, Rosa was moving already to steer him forward toward the first burger, because they were clearly wasting too much time talking and not enough time eating ground burgers.

Just because Blackstone wasn't in this one didn't mean Rosa didn't have to make sure to at least place higher than her in whatever even she did wind up in.

Guillermo had no idea how he had managed to not fall over even with Rosa holding onto his legs but he felt pretty confident about the eating part though and very quickly ate that first burger.

“Okay this isn’t so bad right?” he asked, more to himself than to Rosa but he so far he seemed to be doing okay.

Stark sighed. "I've eaten worse things than hamburgers off of the ground..."

But if Graham wanted to be the wheelbarrow he wouldn't object.

"They do look like pretty good hamburgers," said Graham, who had absolutely been eying the hamburgers in question with something that looked suspiciously like hunger, and so it came out a little wistfully. He was kind of hoping to be the wheelbarrow in this one, but if Stark wanted to do the honors, he'd definitely feel bad about taking it from him!

The only reason Stark might want to be the wheelbarrow was that if he wasn't properly punished by today's shenanigans then next week's were sure to be worse. And he'd feel awful about forcing someone else to eat food off the ground if they weren't willing.

"You can have the burgers if you like..."

The brightness of the grin and the eager straightening of Graham's shoulders with that news should hopefully banish any concerns regarding his unwillingness to eat burgers from the ground from Stark's mind entirely.

"I do make a really good wheelbarrow!" Graham informed him enthusiastically. "And I don't weight much, so that means I'm easy to push, too!"

Stark was stronger than he looked, especially since he had a tendency to make himself look smaller than he was. He didn't think pushing Graham along would be terribly difficult.

"If you're sure you want to eat the burgers off the ground." Honestly, Anakin, why were you like this?

"Shall we get started?"

"I definitely want to eat the burgers off the ground!" said Graham, in a way that actually left absolutely no room for sarcasm at all, that's how infused with hopeful sincerity it was. "And, yes! Let's!"

So, with that, Graham was on his hands and knees, looking over his shoulder to see if Stark was ready for him to put his feet up and they could get this wheelbarrow hamburger eating party started!

"Then you should have all the burgers," Stark told him before holding out his hands ready to grab Graham's ankles.

Maybe he would get a burger that hadn't sat on the ground later. Or tomorrow.

One of these weeks Jo was going to have to start wearing practical clothes to these and not a really nice dress like the one she was wearing today, she wrinkled her nose a little at the idea of eating food off the ground, "this hardly seems proper," she said, they definitely would never have done this at Malory Towers.

"Well, no, but we aren't picking up fish with our toes, either," Clare said.

“You had to pick up fish with your toes?” Jo blinked, rather glad that she had seemed to miss the one ~~and the mun quickly went back to check and make sure~~

Clare nodded. "It was very odd." She glanced at the other teams. "I've never actually done this before but I suppose I'm on bottom on account of you not wanting to show the world your knickers?"

Jo nodded, “If you wouldn’t mind, I
would rather not show what panties I wear,”

She really had to learn to start wearing trousers on Wednesday.

"Not unless they are very cute," Clare agreed, "or you're as bold as me friend Michelle, who has shown her knickers to half of Derry."

Vi was definitely giving Anakin the greasy eye for this one. Just because she had an iron stomach didn't mean she liked the idea of ground burgers.

"You have a preference here?" she asked Sakaki.

And Sakaki just felt kind of....torn.

"Not...really?" she admitted, although the question at the end definitely seemed to suggest otherwise. She did consider, though, that this was a team effort, and she didn't want to disappoint her teammates.

"I'm not sure," she admitted a moment later, "I could eat that many burgers, though..."

And not even because they were on the ground, although that didn't help!

"I guess I can be the wheelbarrow." Ground burgers couldn't be worse than whatever Summer was planning for class.

"Eight just seems like a lot," Sakaki said, now feeling a little bad that this meant Vi had to eat the burgers, but not bad enough to change her mind, and she positioned herself with her hands held out so that she could hold Vi's legs whenever she was ready.

"It does," Vi agreed, dropping to the ground like she was going to do push-ups and then lifting her feet for Sakaki to grab.
