Treasure! [Monday, Period One]

Today class was meeting on the beach, where there was a roped off area.

"So last week we talked about different kinds of treasure, and you were all pretty big fans of friendship," Aphra started off. "Today we're all about the most common place to find that treasure, buried deep underground!"

Normally this wouldn't apply to friendship as well, but this was Aphra talking.

"Now, in fine piratical tradition, we've buried treasure somewhere on this shore," Isabela told them, hint, hint, the roped off area was a clue. "And it's your job to find the booty. You can work together or on your own."

"Now due to our different professional backgrounds we had a slight disagreement over suitable tools." Aphra may have been a rogue archeologist, but she was still an archeologist who at least pretended to follow dig protocols. "But we came to a suitable compromise."

Wonder just how many friendships Aphra has buried.

A lot.

Or carefully rake through the sand for treasure, together or separately. Eventually, someone will uncover a small metal casket with the treasure inside.

It's friendship. More accurately four (moddable) friendship bracelets.

More amused than anything (and blissfully unaware of anything Isabela might be scheming about in regards to her), Steph was combing through the sand with her rake.

Not that she'd realized she needed it to be, but it was very soothing.

"So what do you think, everyone?" asked Graham, already brandishing his little plastic shovel and pail eagerly and looking far too pleased about it. "Do we start at the edges and work our way in? Or start in the middle and branch out?"

Clearly, if the real treasure was the friends we found along the way, then teamwork HAD to be the key!

"If we start at the edges and work our way in, and sort of meet in the middle... ish," Steph remarked, "it would fit the friendship theme."

Since, you know, if she followed along with the thread of the buried-friendships theme, it was a little close to home.

Graham pointed a finger at Steph with a grin, in an enthusiastic appreciation of that solid logic.

"Exactly! Good thinking! Outside in it is, then!" he declared. "I claim the northwest quadrant!"

And, with a plan in place, he was just a flurry of red cloak until he made it to his corner and diligently set to the task.

"Oh, coming together at the end makes the most sense," Belle said, agreeing with Steph.

"And aren't these tools charming?"

"Maybe," Steph said thoughtfully (but also impishly), "we should just build a sandcastle, have a hell of a lot of fun doing it, and then boom, we can all say it's a nice memory we can look back on and treasure. That totally counts."

"Ohhhhhh!" gushed Graham, looking up from the nice trench he'd already gotten started. "I love that idea!"

Surprising no one.

"Fort Friendship! Built on the best treasure in all the land!

"...plus sand."

"I've never built a sandcastle. We might find the other treasure while we excavate?"

Maybe Anakin was shuddering somewhere at the idea of all this sand?

"Exactly," Steph replied. "It's like bonus treasure."

Anakin might be. Until he got to his office.

"Isn't all treasure bonus treasure, really?"

"I think," Graham proposed, offering up his clearly expert opinion, "if you go out seeking treasure, that treasure is just regular treasure, but any additional treasure you come across that you weren't expecting, that's going to be the bonus treasure. Of course, it probably gets a little dodgy," he had shifted from the northwestern quadrant closer to the middle, and was making a mount in front of him now, "if you don't know what the treasure you're looking for actually is, because then you don't know....is this just the regular treasure? Or is it maybe the bonus treasure?"

"Then the bonus is just that you got more treasure than you expected to," Steph decided, moving on to an as yet unsearched patch of sand. "Hell, maybe it's that you got any treasure at all."

"That makes sense to me," Belle agreed, filling up her little plastic bucket using her little plastic shovel and then moving the contents away before starting again.

They think they're hilarious.
