Summertime Arts and Crafts!, Tuesday, Fourth Period [07/05].

Sidon would have much preferred for their first meeting to have been somewhere far more summery than the community center, and for more reasons than just that indoors were a bit more...cramped than they had been during his younger years here! But today's project would definitely not be conducive to getting caught in the rain, and so they would be gathering indoors instead.

Where the artists and crafters would find one of the tables all decked out with an assortment of different bottles of all shapes and sizes, several funnels and scoops, and, more important than anything else, several large buckets of brightly colored sand in a wide range of shades and hues.

And a very excited Zora prince ready to dive right into it.

"Greetings!" he finally boomed, once his beaming grin couldn't take it any more and it seemed as though everyone who was going to be there had arrived. "And salutation! Welcome!" His arms swung out wide open. "To Summertime Arts and Crafts! A class where we'll explore a whole plethora of projects inspired by my favorite season here on this fair island! I will admit, most of the arts and crafts we shall be pursuing will be of a bit of an....aquatic, beachy nature, as I'm sure you will not be too terribly surprised that my preferences tend to lean that way, but I shall try to make sure they are varied and interesting, and, by all means, if there is anything in particular you shall wish to pursue or explore, I love suggestions, and encourage you to share them!

"Now some of you," he threw in a little bit of a wink for the faces in the class that might have been slightly less familiar, "might be wondering who I even am, or you might know exactly who I am, but! Since it is the first class of our session, we shall make sure that we're all on the same page in that regards and pursue some introductions! And then, when that is all over, we shall embark on our very first summertime art and craft to kick off our marvelous time together!

"Are you ready? I know I sure am! So let us begin!"

Ready to get started!

Because sometimes getting enthusiasm-bombed by a nine-foot-tall red shark man is an experience all on its own.

"I, of course, shall start us out," Sidon continued, now with a bright glint in his eye that could put the tooth glint on his best smile to the test, because he had never lost his deep love for introductions. "For those of you who don't know...as well as for those of you who are aware, my name is Sidon," and here he gave a mighty pump of his fist across his chest, flashing them his most brilliant smile, which, even inside the community center, found a little shimmer of light off the end of one of his fangs, "the Zora Prince, and I hail from the land of Hyrule, which is a far-away land far different from this one! As a Zora, I am an amphibious fellow, quite at home at both land and sea, but preferable a combination of the both! I was a student here not too long ago for everyone here, though much longer had passed by in my world in the interim, and I hope to one day be a strong and powerful king to the Zora people, although may it truly be a long time until I must step to that calling! In the meantime, I like to spend time here on Fandom Island, teaching classes, and getting to know all of its wonderful citizens! My favorite color is blue, and I'm rather fond of pizza, though most other human foods tend to not sit well with me."

Which was truly a mystery for the ages and/or proof that pizza was, truly, a most magical of foods.

"And there is much more about me that I could tell you," Sidon chuckled with a sort of self-awareness of the fact that he'd already said quite a lot, "but then we would be here all day! And I would much rather learn about you all than continue to babble on about myself! And, besides, we also have art to get to! So, without further ado, I will conclude my introduction here, and happily pass along the torch to whomever shall wish to go next. What say you?"

And, with that, he bowed his head slightly and gestured with his arm invitingly, before looking up hopefully at the next person to step up and offer their introductions.

"Fan-tastic!" Sidon beamed once the last person had finished up their introductions. "How absolutely wonderful to have you all here with us in this class today! But now, let us move on to the reason we're all here: the arts! And the crafts!

"Some of you more astute students may have already pieced together the project we shall be pursuing today, but just to be quite clear, we shall be making bottle sand art today! Simple, effective, beautiful and highly customizable, bottled sand art gives you the opportunity to create a striking piece of art that is sure to bring a smile to the face of all who see it! The process is straight-forward: before you all are a collection of a ~~moddable~~ bottles of all shapes and sizes, as well as sand of all colors! Alternating between colors of your choice, your goal is to fill the bottle with the sand to create a layered visual quite like this." Here, he held up one he'd done earlier for demonstration, which seemed to feature pale blues and turquoise and white, with faint traces of purple here and there, which he felt had done well to evoke the colors of his home, and he admired it a little himself as he turned it around slowly to show it off from all angles.

"Marvelous, isn't it? And now it's your turn! There is no shortage of bottles or sand, so feel free to make as many as you'd like, or just focus on creating one single masterpiece! Do let me know if you have any questions, but if you're ready to begin, then let's have at it!"

Sidon had also made a small series of smaller bottles in shades of red and white that were clearly similar to his own coloring that he planned to take back with him the next time he went home, because while the colors matched him, they were not made with himself in mind.

But he is most certainly there to talk, should anyone need him, as that is easily one of his favorite things to do!

The amount of times my fingers typed "Arts & Carfts" on this post is too damn high.

Dwight Hendrickson

Dwight nodded and figured he might as well go next.

"I'm Dwight Hendrickson. I run the handyman shop on the island. I admit I am not much of an arts n crafter, at least not beyond things like woodworking and what not." Here Dwight paused and gave a slightly apologetic look to Sidon. "I admittedly had not planned on taking the class. Seems someone signed me up for it unexpectedly (the Moose, always the Moose). But I look forward to seeing what it is about and will do the best I can with it all" he added quickly, lest Sidon think he was going to be a downer and unhappy in the class.

OK I feel so old now! I used to make these ALL the time when I was little. I had several dozen on my shelves at any given time when I was like 6-7 LOL

Saaame. I went nuts for bottle sand art well into my teens.

Liz Sherman

Liz figured she should tell Sidon that she was pregnant, since she was sure he’d like to know that his best friend was going to be a father and she decided to approach him after class to tell him.

“Um. … excuse me Pr…Sidon,” she found herself starting to call him by his title and caught herself in time.

Sidon couldn't help but chuckle with amusement at the hastily added addendum. "Well, then, Dwight!" he declared. "I truly do hope you find this unexpected addition to your schedule to be a pleasant surprise, indeed! Perhaps even a fortuitous one! And it will be good to know that, should I find myself somehow stymied by some project that may involve some woodworking, I can know with confidence that there's someone I may turn to for help in such matters! And maybe...." Here, he flashed Dwight a truly brilliant grin, "by the end of the session, you'll be hoping to make something for this mysterious signer," and here he threw in a wink, because of course it was the moose; who else would it have been but the moose? "to thank them!"

Sidon couldn't help a small smile at the little verbal hitch in Liz's words; it would never not amuse him a little whenever people got caught up with the whole business with titles and whatnot. But that small smile grew quickly into a big, warm one as he nodded his acknowledgement.

"Yes!" he said, almost as if as much to confirm that he was, in fact, Sidon, as it was to show that she had his undivided attention now. "Hello, Liz! So wonderful to see you in my class again! I trust you are quite ready to make more beautiful art with us?"

Liz smiled at that, “I am, I’m looking forward to being in your class and being able to make some new art projects,” she told him, she paused for a bit as she considered how to break the news, “… um I was hoping to talk to you to if you weren’t to busy,”

"Marvelous!" said Sidon, clearly pleased to hear that Liz was looking forward to the class, as well, and then he gave her a nod of assurance. "And of course! I am never too busy to talk....well," he gave a faint chuckle as he made an amendment, "perhaps if we were to become beset with an attack of moblins and lizalfos at this very moment, I might find myself quite a bit preoccupied, but I would certain still try and multitask! Thankfully, though, at this particular moment, I believe we are quite free of such distractions, and so I should certainly be able to hold a conversation unperturbed! What is on your mind?"

Liz tried to relax at that, even though she still felt rather nervous about telling Prompto's best friend that she was pregnant.

"I ..." Liz started and stopped, "um ... I'm ..." she took a deep breath, "I'm pregnant," she finally got out, "um ... I'm having a girl, she's Prompto's," she said nervously.

At least this time she hadn't started crying?

Even though Libby took this class last time, too, she still couldn't help but being mildly fascinated and mystified by Sidon and that level of enthusiasm from someone who could easily be considered quite frightening and monstrous. It really did go to show that you couldn't judge someone by their outward appearance alone!

And his enthusiasm was contagious, so she was feeling pretty bright and eager when it came to be her time for her introduction, as well.

"Hi, everyone," she said, the broadness of her smile chasing away any lingering nervousness, as she nodded. "I'm Liberty Hazlett, but everyone just calls me Libby. I really liked the lessons where we made things in Mr. Sidon's Aquatic Arts class last time, so I'm excited that he's going to be focusing on just those things time time. Not that I didn't also enjoy the swimming parts," she added quickly, flashing a smile up at Sidon, "those were fun, too, but I like having things to make for myself and my friends, and I already have some good ideas to maybe share with my little siblings...when," she had to make sure she didn't say if there, "I go home."

Out of all the things Sidon could have imagined Liz might have wanted to talk to him about, he had to admit that this was not one of them, and the surprise was evident on his face for a moment before he let out a bright, cheerful laugh and opened up his arms with excitement. "Pregnant?" he repeated, with a sort of fascinated astonishment, and, well, if you were hoping to still keep things a bit quiet about that, Liz....whoops? Sidon was not exactly known for keeping himself quiet or subtle. "Why, Liz! That's amazing! Incredible! Congratulations! Your very own little hatchling on the way! Errm, I mean, baby, I suppose, would be the proper term. Child! Fantastic! When will we get to meet her? I...must admit, it's been quite a while since I've had any sort of course on human reproduction, but it does take a bit of time for a human child to grow, does it not? I'm thinking...." He squinted a little to roll back the years toward that one class he'd had more than thirty years ago now. "....is it nine something? Weeks? Months? Surely not days!"

That math certainly did not add up, unless he was misremembering a lot of things about human reproduction!

Liz was honestly surprised that she had kept the pregnancy secret for this long, considering that it was Fandom and all but she figured that eventually she wouldn't be able to keep the news hidden for that long.

She smiled, “It’s nine months,” she told him, relaxing a little from her nerves, “um … I’m seven weeks, so I’m due around early February, I only found out a bit over a week ago,” she said, “it wasn’t … it was rather unexpected,” she admitted.

"Welcome back, Libby!" Sidon met her introduction brightly. "And you are absolutely right, of course! Actual arts can sometimes be much easier to share with others than aquatic arts, and I'm pleased you've been inspired to create and share more! You simply must share with us how it goes over if you do in fact spread your newfound knowledge to your siblings as well!"

"Months," Sidon repeated, with a nod, to better remember, serious for a moment but the grin couldn't be kept off his face for long. "Spectacular! And if I'm not mistaken, that's nine months of you actually carrying her with you while she grows, yes? That's so fascinating! We Zora hatch from eggs, you know, so it's quite a bit different, but I've always felt that the human way of doing things tends to be more individual, independant, while we Zora tend to be far more communal with such things. And that's plenty of time for Prompto to get back from his war, I should hope!"

He certainly did not want to dwell on the possibility of it taking longer than that, and so he didn't, charging forward with the more positive aspects that should be clearly celebrated.

"Why, he must be absolutely over the moon about it!"

Liz nodded, a hand going to her stomach - even though she wasn’t showing yet, it still felt weird to think that her daughter was growing inside her. “I am - I’m going to be carrying her for that time, it’s … it’s definitely taken some getting used to and there’ll be quite a lot of changes as she grows,” she paused, "I'm ... I'm still a bit scared of everything," she admitted.

She hesitated, her smile dropping a bit at that last part, “Prompto … he doesn’t know,” she paused, “I - I haven’t been able to tell him, I wasn’t able to tell him the last time we spoke,” she was pretty sure Sidon didn’t want to know that the last time she had spoken to Prompto had been about her confessing to emotionally cheating on him, so she decided to not bring up that part.

"Hello!" Graham grinned from ear to ear as his hand swiped in front of him in a broad wave to everyone. "I'm Graham! Graham Cra--"

Somehow, one of the bottles on the table in front of him started to tip over, clattering to its side and beginning to roll toward the edge, and, in a moment of prioritizing, he cut himself off to lunge for it quickly before it could shatter on the floor, let out a little bit of a laugh, and set it back on the table.

"Zounds! That was a close one! Anyway, like I said, my name is Graham, and I reaaaaallly love Arts & Crafts! I do them all the time, and I especially like sewing things, I even took a course in Knight School about creative costuming! So I'm really excited to see what I can learn how to make in this class! Hopefully..." He chuckled a little sheepishly as he recalled Sir Graham Arrowfingers from Miss Steph's class, "without gluing myself to too many things this time...."

If he managed to glue himself to something today, that would almost be impressive.

"Fantastic, Graham!" Sidon mirrored that kind of enthusiasm easily, and, in fact, seemed to add a little more to it in a way that might make a few people slightly worried about these levels of enthusiasm colliding in one space at the same time. "And excellent catch! Those kind of quick reflexes will serve you well in Arts & Crafts! I'll try to remember that about sewing, although, I must admit, it is a field that I am not nearly as familiar with, as well as the point about glue, although that might be, unfortunately, quite a bit unavoidable!"

"Well," said Sidon, his smile softening a little bit at this news and his tone going more mild. Sympathetic, really. "I'm sure that when you do have the chance to tell him, he will be positively ecstatic to hear it. And there's no need to be frightened. Should you need anything, anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask and know that you can always turn to me for help."

He did, however, let out a soft chuckle at that.

"Although, I'll admit, I don't know how much help I can be in matters such as this, but! I assure you, if there is something I may do, I will do so, and gladly! It would be my honor..as a good friend of Prompto's, and a good friend of yours, as well, Liz."

"I'm Vi," Vi said, not volunteering any further info.

Liz found herself tearing up that and she quickly tried to wipe away her tears but some kept falling, “thank you, you're a good friend of mine as well,” she told him softly, “it … it means a lot to know that, I’ll - I'll definitely remember that,” she told him.

She paused, “I wish I could Prompto the news, I - I don’t know how long it will be til I can talk to him next, I - we did talk about starting a family but I always thought that would be a couple of years away,” she admitted.

"Yes!" said Sidon, confirming this fact that she was, in fact, Vi, with bright grin and a pump of his fist. "Hello, Vi! Welcome back! I trust you are ready and eager to pursue even more arts and crafts in the next few weeks?"

"That is the rather funny thing," Sidon offered gently, "about life and plans, isn't it? Sometimes, you think you've got it all figured out, and then it turns out that it has something else in mind entirely. Or perhaps just wants to speed things up a bit." His grin grew a little again. "But what an incredible opportunity! It may be a little jarring, at first, for it to happen sooner rather than later, but just think of how much more time you'll have with your daughter in your life now! And you humans, you get such a small amount of time as it is! Every moment must count, and just think of how many more moments there shall be with her now!"

"Ano..."

You'd think, after having worked with Sidon for as long as she had, Sakaki would have been able to shake off some of the nervousness she felt around him, but then you'd think wrong. It didn't help that she generally dreaded introduction as a whole, even without the ones lead by an overly-enthusiastic shark man, but there you had it.

"I'm Sakaki," she said, offering an awkward sort of half-bow because it still felt unnatural not to bow, even if that wasn't how they did things over here. "I also like arts and crafts, so I...I think I will like this class."

So long as she could just be left to whatever the art or craft of the day was in peace and...

...well, she wouldn't hold out hope for quiet, all things considered.

Liz glanced down at her stomach, blinking back those tears that hadn't quite fallen, "I mean I thought I'd be married before I started having a family but I - I - never thought of it like that," she said softly, "I - I do get to spend more time with her, both now and when she's born ... it I do like that idea, having more special moments with her and being able to take photos of those memories," she said with a small smile.

"I'm Liz Sherman," Liz said when it was her turn, "I enjoyed your class last semester so I wanted to take your class again," she said softly, "I've been enjoying learning how to make different art projects,"

Vi was oddly glad of the fact there were no awkward silences when Sidon was around.

"Yeah." And she wasn't even lying. "I am."

Sidon absolutely did not believe in such a thing as awkward silences! Meaningful and poignant ones, yes, but never awkward ones!

"Marvelous!" he gushed eagerly, and he would have done so even if she was lying, but it always felt a bit nicer when that wasn't the case. "I'm greatly looking forward to seeing what magnificent creations are in store for you this time!"

And wouldn't you know, also not a lie.

"I certainly hope you do, as well, Sakaki!" Sidon beamed especially brightly for his intrepid little vet-to-be. "It's so wonderful to have you join us! Do you think perhaps you will be making a few things to share with our friends over at the shelter?"

"I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the last session, Liz!" Sidon beamed happily at this news, almost as if it was possibly one of the kindest compliments he could have received...and, truly, it was up there! What was the point if people weren't enjoying it? "And here's to hoping that there are many new projects to explore ahead of us for you to continue enjoying it!"

"We must never," there was another strange softness to Sidon's voice with those words, a faint distance in his smile, as he reached down to set a gentle hand on Liz's shoulder, "take the time we have with those we care about for granted; we truly must cherish each and every one for the treasure it truly is..."

And, chasing away his own thoughts and memories that those words inspired with a faint chuckle, he lifted his hand and added, "Between you and Prompto, I daresay that little girl is going to be the most photographed child ever to exist! I swear, I could probably count on one claw the amount of times I'd ever seen him without a camera in his hand!"

Well, that certainly got Sakaki's attention, as she let out a small sound of surprise and looked up (and up and up!) at Sidon.

"Do...do you think," she asked, cautiously, as if scarcely willing to believe it, "they would like that?"

Gray

Wow, that much enthusiasm was at risk of making Gray fall asleep from secondhand exertion. "I'm Gray," he said. "I've never done much in the way of arts & crafts before," because effort, "but it sounded like fun?"

After looking things over, Gray immediately knew what he wanted to do, and assembled seven different colors of sand: purple, red, orange, yellow, green, royal blue, and light blue. Now he just needed to decide what order to put them in the bottle. If he did age order, should he do Alastair first, so he'd end up at the bottom of the bottle, or last, so he'd be at the top? Or should he do rainbow order, which left his light blue as the odd one out he had to figure out where to place? So many options!

Sidon quite possibly had enough enthusiasm to not only put a person to sleep from second hand exhaustion, but then continue on to wake them back up again!

"Gray!" he beamed happily down at him. "That is excellent news! That means, hopefully, every class shall be a new and exciting experience! I only hope that the levels of fun will indeed match up with the expectation!"

Liz smiled softly at that, “I think she might be,” she agreed, focusing on the idea that Prompto would come back and they’d be able to take photos together of their daughter, “it wouldn’t surprise me if our daughter ends up being a photographer as well,”

She was basing that off Noctra being into photography but she did like the idea of raising a daughter who would share her parents’ hobby.
