“Today,” Stark said, “I’ve brought some rainbow things so we can make rainbow cupcakes. For this weekend. Rainbows for Pride.”

He nodded towards the box in the usual spot on the counter. “I brought rainbow candies. And food coloring. I suppose we ought to see what else has appeared. Waiting will only delay the inevitable.”

“I have rainbow Nerds, and Skittles, M&M’s, rainbow sprinkles, rainbow belts...” Stark stopped removing ingredients and eyed the box suspiciously. It was all going too well. What horrors waited at the bottom?

“Then there’s food coloring. That’s easy enough. You can do lots of things with that. And there’s a cereal called Fruity Pebbles and one called Fruit Loops. I’m not sure about cereal. Probably fine. rainbow carrots. Oh, those are fine. Carrot cake is fine.” Stark was now looking relieved. Foolish man. “And…rainbow mixed vegetables?” He let out a long-suffering sigh, peered back into the box and then let out another. “And rainbow trout. I thought we were safe from fish this week. Please don’t use the fish.” Summer.

Stark shook his head and looked around the room. “At least there was no medicine this time. Have fun. I can help if you need it. Or you can just decorate some of the already done rainbow cupcakes. Without the trout. Please.”

"Stargazy cupcakes!" said Summer, delighted and unabashed, and look at how she was combining their classes, Stark! That was called synergy! "I'm doing it!"

Look, she was barely holding back a Rage Mode since Wednesday night, sometimes you just had to let her have these things for the sake of everyone around her.

"I'm not eating that," Stark told her very quickly. "But you can do what you like."

He should have known.

She would have thought you were gremlin-bit or possessed or body-napped if you did eat one, Stark.

"I'll make some with the Nerds, too," Summer offered, figuring if she was going to the warehouse district later, she might as well bring by some theme-appropriate cupcakes for the biggest nerd of them all, "if that helps."

It would probably be easy to spot a replacement Stark that way.

"Together?" He knew Summer. He had to ask. "If they aren't together then yes it helps. I might try all the candies."

"....okay," said Summer, because why did you let this happen to her, Stark? "Three cupcakes. Stargazy, Nerds, and Stargazy Nerds."

To her credit, she was kind of trying to ignore a bit of a funk right now, so she wasn't going to feel too bad about not putting them together until Stark said it.

"I shouldn't have said anything." Stark really ought to know better by now. And yet.

"I'll try your Nerd cupcakes. Without fish. Maybe you can have a Skittles one?"

"I could definitely have a Skittles one," Summer agreed with a nod. "But not too many. You still need some to take over to the fire station, right?"

It was a delayed thread, sure, but it was still there to be pulled, dammit!

"I don't need to," Stark said just a bit too quickly. "I just thought I might. If there were extras."

"Okay, fine," Summer allowed with a roll of her eyes. "You still should take some over to the fire station. If there's extra. Is that better?"

"I was thinking I might," Stark said with a nod. "I did last week. I just thought... it might be nice to share. Again."

Jo was not going to go near the trout but she decided to decorate one of the cupcakes and decided to use m&ms and rainbow sprinkles for her decorations.
