Cupcakes, Friday 6/3, Period 2
Like the last two weeks, Stark was at the front of the room today with a box of mystery ingredients in front of him. “Welcome back. Nothing kraken-themed this week, in case anyone was worried.” There were other things to worry about.
“I thought white cupcakes this week,” he said. “So we’ll have a variety of white ingredients to try.” Ingredients he had not, of course, checked again after packing them into the box to begin with.
“I have white chocolate, coconut, cream cheese, egg whites, macadamia nuts, mayonnaise which sounds like it shouldn’t work in baking but it does, I promise...” Stark pulled out each ingredient and set it in front of him as he listed them off. His voice trailed off as he saw the last two ingredients and he sighed before continuing. “ …and then there’s onion and garlic.”
Yes, he shot a suspicious glance in Summer’s direction (assuming she was there). Not a long one because he was still awkward, but he did look her way.
“I have some already made cupcakes, if you like. None with onion or garlic. That I know of. If anyone wants help I’ll be here to assist.”

Listen to Stark / Bake!
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Like, it was fair to assume, sure, but did Stark really think she wouldn't totally own that shit if it was her?
She almost wondered if she should hire Rosa or someone to look into seeing who the real box infiltrator was.
Almost. She was definitely way too busy being smug about already knowing about mayonnaise somehow working well in desserts, and, eventually, totally adding garlic and onion garnish to her cupcakes and plastering that shit all over her Insta, because of course she would.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Are you going to eat those after you take pictures?"
It wasn't a dare. It wasn't a request for a cupcake (though he would try one if she asked). He was just curious.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
She was not, in this case, and might eventually be a little mad at herself that she hadn't thought of it herself, but these ingredients had absolutely nothing to do with her.
At least, she was pretty sure they didn't.
But who really knew, in the grand scheme of things?
"I am a little curious," she admitted, "but I'm not sure yet. Why?" Here, she could only flash Stark a devious grin. "Did you want one?"
He should know by now that if someone opened the door to an invitation in most things, Summer Smith was absolutely going through that door.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"I don't want one," he said. "I'll try one if you like."
To be more appreciative! Not in a creepy way. He hoped.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
And Current Summer wrinkled her nose a little, because she couldn't, morally, try to press one on Stark if he didn't want one, even if she apparently could, and, dammit, sometimes it sucked being one of the good Summers!
She seemed to flip-flop a little on it, though, before finally shaking her head. "I'll just save them for Goose. I'm not making you eat garlic, onion, and white chocolate cupcakes in your own class unless you wanted to, Stark."
She was just going to keep holding onto that hope that one day, he might finally want to.
It wasn't, like, a strong hope, by any margin, but it was there.

Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Everyone," she countered, "should skip my banana fish concoctions."
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
He might not be able to look at bananas for a bit either.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"You know there's no obligation to try any of the horrible things I come up with, Stark," she checked, because she was positive they've had this conversation before, but it apparently bared repeating, "right?"
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Or too appreciated. It might be a fine line there.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Oh.
....ohhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Summer's mouth opened, even took in an inhale of breath about to turn into words, seemed to think better of it, and tried again.
"Honestly?" she said. "It's the thought that really counts. So...." She nodded. "Thank you."
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
He nearly always showed up for the jello.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
You know. So he could appreciate her making it less...disgusting to appreciate her.
"For this class," she quickly clarified. "Not mine. That would defeat the whole purpose of mine."
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Do you have a color suggestion for next time?"
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
And as for the question?
"And I don't know," Summer shrugged, but her smile and lack of thinking about it suggested that perhaps she did, actually, "pink, maybe?"
Everyone contain your shock and surprise.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"We could do pink." What sort of horrible pink surprises might appear? "I'll look for pink recipes."
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Pink," she said, "is a very good color. I'm looking forward to it."
And any terrible things that made their way into the box were absolutely not her fault, dammit!
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Pink is good," Stark agreed. He was skipping both blue and purple this time around. "Berries, maybe."
Hopefully not Pepto-Bismol or anything that horrifying.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Lots of pink candies, too," Current Summer offered, far more helpfully.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"I'll look for things. Maybe at the store?"
