There was absolutely nothing strange going on in the library today. Which was, in and of itself, kind of strange.

Still, Terra was taking advantage of the quiet to do a little practice with her powers, taking a small potted plant, and making it bloom repeatedly.

Kurt had been meaning to get back to the library to look for some more books and such. As he walked in, he caught sight of Terra and couldn't help but notice what she was doing and his eyes got a little big as he walked over.

"That is so COOL!" he said with a nod towards the little plant.

"What's cool?" Terra blinked at him. "Oh! This?" She gestured at the plant. "It's just, just a little magic, that's all."

"Just a little magic? You make it sound like abilities like this are normal." Kurt looked at the plant again then back to Terra. "Back home there are people with powers, but I don't know of anyone who can do something like this."

There was a brief pause as Kurt had a realization and smiled awkwardly.

"I'm Kurt by the way. I... I don't think we have met before."

"They are!" Terra nodded. "Normal, I mean. Where I'm from. This is pretty basic, for an Earth fairy."

"It's nice to actually meet you, Kurt," she added with a smile. "Which is, I mean to say, that it's rather a small school, and I've seen you around. I'm Terra."

"Good to meet you too, Terra," Kurt said with a smile. "And I think this is a really cool ability to have. What else can you do with it? I'm still learning how to use my powers better too."

"Oh, if I wanted, I could make this grow- bigger. Like big enough to be useful in a fight," Terra told him with a shrug. "That's actually easier than this," she gestured to the little potted plant. Raw power was easy for her to come by, it was the fine control that she needed practice with.

Kurt nodded slowly. "Kinda like the idea it is easier to break a stone into piece with a hammer and chisel with nothing more than raw power. It takes skill and focus to create a fine sculpture with the same tools." Kurt gave a small laugh and rubbed the back of his head. "That's how the Professor explains it to new Mutants when we start to get our powers and are learning how to control them."

"The Professor?" Terra asked, curious.

"The Professor is one of the most powerful Mutants, at least back in my version of earth. He has a school where Mutants, mostly younger ones like me, go to learn how to use their powers" Kurt explained. "There are all kinds of powers too, some can control the weather, some have super speed, and a few really powerful ones, like the Professor, have telekinetic and telekinesis like powers. A few can fly, control dimensional portals, or teleport... like me."

"Teleportation," Terra mused. "That's Light magic, where I'm from. We have a school too- well, several of them, but Alfea's the very best. I'm a bit too young to actually attend, which is why I'm here instead, but it's where I grew up. Your Professor sounds a bit like Ms. Dowling, the headmistress there."

"Back home it is a lot about learning to control the powers. Both to keep ourselves safe and those around us" Kurt said. "It's harder back home in some ways because most people are not accepting of Mutants. They fear us and even hate us. A...there are groups who hate even." Kurt paused a moment then hastily added "I'm glad it is so much different here at Fandom High."

"That sounds horrible," Terra said sympathetically. "Fairies and humans work together pretty well where I'm from."
