Cupcakes, Friday 5/27, Period 2
“Welcome back,” Stark said from where he stood at the front of the room. There was a box in front of him, like last week, and he hadn’t double-checked the contents again, like last week.
“I hope yesterday wasn’t too painful for anyone,” he said. Was he avoiding looking at someone in this class? What? Why would he do that?
“If it was you can, ah, ‘eat your feelings.’ Or stress bake. I’ve been told I do that, sometimes. Both things. I thought orange cupcakes, today. So,” he opened the box in front of him, “orange ingredients to choose from.”
“Oranges, orange soda, orange juice,” he said, holding up each one, “sweet potatoes?” Those got a slight frown. “Carrots for carrot cake, mango, cantaloupe…curry powder?”
If Stark were making eye contact with one of his friends today he would certainly be looking at her right now.
“These things were not all in here to begin with. I’m certain of that. Well. There are many flavors to choose from, I suppose. And some premade cupcakes if anyone wants those.” Had he maybe been stress baking last night? It was possible! “I’m happy to help, should you want assistance.”

Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
She wasn't letting go, by the way.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Vi was in no hurry to end the hug either, relaxing into the contact. "Yesterday sucked."
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"It was the worst." Steph eased up her grip a little bit, but still didn't let go. "Turns out breakfast is way less fun when you're not giving me shit the whole time."
She leaned back just enough to look at Vi. "Are we good now?"
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"That's because you need me to judge all your terrible choices," Vi said.
She nodded. "Yeah. Not that we were ever bad."
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Vi would likely have been able to feel just how much Steph relaxed at that reassurance. "Your snarky commentary is a part of my properly balanced breakfast, that's true," she said, which was a much less awkward response to that comment than she might have given yesterday.
She indicated the baking supplies. "Team up on this today?"
Because between the two of them they were probably going to have two hands available at best to actually do any baking.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"No wonder you don't eat if I'm not around," Vi said, pressing her face in against the crook of Steph's neck before pulling back enough to actually look at the supplies again. "Sounds good to me."
Who needed hands to bake? Apart from everyone.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Excuse you, I do eat when you're not around," Steph said, leaning into her. "Mostly. I'm getting better?"
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Good," Vi said, sincere again for a moment. "Because I do worry about that."
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Steph kept one arm around her, but got the other one free to half distractedly go through the ingredients. Sorry, Stark and everyone else, you were just going to have to put up with this from them for the rest of the period.
"I know. And I really do think it's sweet of you to worry," she said just as sincerely. "You know I worry about you too, right?"
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Yeah," Vi said softly. "It's nice." It'd been a long time since someone had.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Good, because I'm not stopping." Steph gave her a sidelong grin. "Hey, up for another round of Our Mundane Supernatural Life later?"
Which would still not be a date, by the way.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"You know I am," Vi said, grinning back. "I'll bring dinner."
Not. A. Date.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Fuck yes." Steph fistpumped and did a brief little happy dance. "It's your turn to have the superpowers this time."
Just because their characters ended up together (if they weren't already at the beginning) every time they played this game, it still didn't mean game nights were dates. At all.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"I've already figured out my powers too."
The game just lent itself to it. Not their fault.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
... with the right people. Shut up.
"You've been looking forward to playing again," she noted with a laugh. "I say this like I don't have my character all figured out already, too."
Sure, the game was set up so you could play as roommates or family members or friends, but that didn't seem to hold as much appeal. For some reason.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
"Actually, I figure if I don't have to make up my character while we set up I can spend as little time with you as possible," Vi said, like they didn't usually end game nights passing out next to each other on Steph's couch.
Like people who were not on a date often did.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Steph feigned one of the exaggerated looks of shock and betrayal that she'd gotten really good at since the two of them had started hanging out. Well... 'gotten really good at' only if you counted the fact that she was always barely holding back a laugh.
"I knew you were just using me for the snacks." The snacks that she'd only started keeping in the pantry recently, and only because they were Vi's favorites, but that didn't mean anything either.
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Were those the ingredients she was absolutely focusing on, though, all the same?
Yes. Absolutely. But that didn't prove anything!
Re: Listen to Stark / Bake!
Kiem, who had been stuck playing a game on his phone most of the day was anyway perfectly able to blurt out truths regardless of day, so he hadn't figured out that something was going on.
He picked an orange, curry powder, sweet potatoes and carrots. The colours looked nice together, that was a good start, wasn't it?
