Arthurian Traditions (04/18)

"Good morning, class," Camulus grumbled. If one were looking closely at his kilt, one would notice that the hem looks decidedly ragged and chewed upon. This could be one of the reasons he's scowling. Then again, he's usually scowling.

"Uill, the last two classes were spent watching the film 'Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail'. And since you lot didn't have any thoughts about it, you're going to have to listen to me talk about it for a whole class."

Camulus went on to outline in depth how the structure of the movie mirrored the structure of the Mabinogian and other Arthurian tales with its random diversions and side stories. He talked about how the Knights Who Say Ni were similar to the numerous quests of Peredur and the eternal questing for the Holy Grail. The Black Knight and the Green Knight and the Beheading Game. Then how the endings were similar in that the stories didn't really end, just sort of . . . trailed off.

Yes, he spent the entire lesson talking very seriously about Monty Python.

Phoebe perched on her usual spot and listened to Camulus teach. No, she wasn't looking around the room cautiously every few moments.

"A ghraidh?"

Phoebe looked at him and managed a smile for him. "Sorry, A stor, still a little skittish after what happened."

"Understandable," Camulus rumbled, reaching out to pat her hand. "How are you doing?"

Phoebe squeezed his hand. "Better. I was kind of out of it when you came to the clinic Friday night, but I wanted to say thank you for coming after me."

"I couldn't let anything happen to my First Prime," Camulus replied, not realising that he hadn't actually informed her of her promotion. "I would have have come for you no matter what."

"I was very glad to see you."

Phoebe wasn't completely sure what a First Prime did, but she was just glad that he would have come for her no matter what. It meant a lot.

"Was anyone hurt?" She would not offend his pride by asking if he was hurt, but she really did need to know nothing had harmned him.

"Not that I saw," Camulus replied. "But I was only concerned with you, a ghraidh." He wasn't about to mention that the first demon they had come across had looked like her and then exploded. He did look a bit childish when he announced proudly, "I got to behead something."

Phoebe looked relieved and felt some of the tension drain out of her shoulders. She didn't know what any of the teams had faced execpt for her sisters, Cole and Angel, so hearing that Camulus hadn't been harmed at all made her feel a bit more relaxed.

"I'm glad you were not harmed, A stor," she said. "And good. I'm sure the demon deserved it."

[[OOC: Was just explaining to a friend what a First Prime was. *laughs* 'But Phoebe doesn't have the gold mark.']]

He was grinning rather wolfishly. "Oh, the demon did. I believe I beheaded right after it told me that none of us would survive the night. Especially you, a ghraidh."

Still, he was a bit ruffled that she would even think that he would be harmed. So he wasn't mentioning that he did end up with a very impressive burn on his hand.

Phoebe is obviously relieved.

"I knew nothing could hurt you, A stor, but I had to hear you say it."

He smiled at her and patted her hand again. "All that matters is that you're safe now."

Phoebe smiled back at him. "So am I."

Kawalsky signed in.

Boone signs in, making sure to leave coffee for Phoebe, the uber-cool TA. And Midol for Camulus, as usual.

Phoebe grins at Boone and happily takes the coffee.

Lyta signs in.

John signs in.

Ask him anything. Except that, Kawalsky.

Allie waits until Camulus isn't busy and makes her way over to talk to him. "Um, sir? I missed some classes because I was in the clinic. Is there makeup work I can do?"

"Yes, yes, I had heard that," Camulus replied, frowning as he thought. "Make sure you're caught up on the reading and, ah, a page on the Holy Grail movie. That sound reasonable?" He wasn't really asking.

Kawalsky raised his hand. He looked very serious as he waited to be called on. Maybe for once he was actually going to ask a proper question.

Camulus's eyebrow soared skyward. "Yes, Mr. Kawalsky?"

Kawalsky lowered his hand. "Can I go to the bathroom?"

"I wouldn't know," Camulus replied levelly. "You'll have to consult with your doctor."

Kawalsky did not smirk. He was definitely not having fun exchanging barbs with a Goa'uld. "Funny. Sir. School policy is for students to request permission from the teacher on duty in order to leave the classroom. Do I have your permission, sir?"

Yeah, so maybe he was trying a different tactic to screw with Camulus. He had to do something to pass the time.

Kawalsky was clearly up to something.

Camulus just didn't know what it was.

Yet.

"You do," he replied, nodding with his eyes slightly narrowed suspiciously.

Kawalsky calmly got up, leaving his books behind, and walked out the door.

He returned without incident a few minutes later.

Yeah, totally up to something, even if he himself didn't even know it yet.

Camulus's eyes flared as he watched him suspiciously, but didn't say anything.

When he got home, he was setting the security system to "puree".

Boone raised his hand. Yes, he had a ~~totally in~~appropriate question.

"Yes, Mr. Carlyle?"

"Um. I just wanted to say that you seem like you're in a kinda nice mood. What brought on the change?" He really, really hoped it wasn't naked yoga or anything.

"I beheaded someone this weekend," Camulus smirked. "That tends to put me in a rather more cheerful mood."

Scary? Just a wee bit.

"Which head?"

Camulus's eyes flared and he simply regarded Boone levelly, one eyebrow gradually rising upwards.

John does not ask if this movie completely parallels Henry IV from Shakespeare.

*glees at new icon*

Happy birthday, you! Why do you not tell me these things?

I'm sorry, I thought I had! No wait, that was Tonks-mun. *sheepish* Sorry . . .

*makes a note*

*adds it to her calendar in her mun journal*

*clears throat* The proper term is "that was was Tonks-mun who [you] love and adore and so on and so forth". Right?

...Right?

*nods emphatically* Right. Of course. Absolutely. *snuggles* Happy birthday to you, too!
