Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

The weather was not cooperating for an outdoor event, being rainy and cold for May, but the school had compensated with huge tents, hilariously large umbrellas, and enough food and drink to distract everyone from the soggy ground.

Well. Hopefully?

Ah, yes. Once again Gray got to be the little brother. Good thing he had plenty of experience in this role, and between a nap at the airport and a nap in the minivan on the way here, he was full of energy!...for now.

He checked to make sure his name tag was on straight. All good!

"Look at that, Triumph!" said Graham, beaming brightly, to the very large capybara-like creature at his side, who mostly seemed interested in scratching an itch on the side of table. "Nametags!"

He found his and slapped it onto his chest and lookeddown at it proudly before looking for another one with another name, and his shoulders sunk a little in disappointment.

"Oh....it looks like they don't have one for you, Triumph." The steed made a little chirping sounds, and Graham grinned. "Oh, I'm sure they can still make one for you, too! Let's find out!"

Man, someone must have really hated their kid. Gray took out his phone, pulled up the group chat Daman had created for them when Gray had announced his 'high school immortal' plans, and texted his brothers, My roommate is one of the ingredients for s'mores, even though he knew what it would do to Raiden.

Then he started looking around for a 'Graham' nametag. Or like. A sentient graham cracker. Who knew?

The view from the teacher corral was always going to be one of Summer's favorites, especially today, since it involved being under a tent. She was keeping an eye out for Lana to corner her with the whole Teacher Buddy schpiel, as well, because sh,ewas not going to let something like that fact that Lana was hardly new stop her from doing her thing.

Hey, Steph wasn't thinking of this as teaching! More like facilitating. Enabling, maybe. You could tell she was highly amused about being on the faculty for the summer, though, just from the wry look on her face.

She'd grown up in the Pacific Northwest, so this weather didn't seem to bother her at all. And yes, she did have a water-resistant beanie on, along with a t-shirt that said "Game Master" on it, in case anyone was wondering what she was going to be "teaching" this term.

"Ahhhhh, wonderful!" Sidon announced to no one in particular once he arrived on the scene with a boisterous laugh and an opening, welcoming gesture of his arms, made even more excited because this was definitely his kind of weather, and he was more than happy to spend most of his time outside the tents...and not even due to height! "The welcome picnic! Always a delight! Spectacular!"

And he was always glad to make an appearance when he could, if only to serve as a literally towering example of some of things considered more strange about Fandom as a whole. When in doubt, just point to the nine foot tall giant red sharkman!

Ahhh, it was good to be back after two oh so gruelling weeks back at the Eighth Division where he really didn't do much of anything, but it felt like Shunsui'd done enough work to make up for all the time he missed while being here. Why, he'd barely even had enough time for proper naps between doing this, that, and the other thing! So it shouldn't surprise anyone if, in between sips and offers of sake, the Shinigami was finding a nice spot under the tents for the occasional little catnap here and there.

It certainly was good to be back. And not just because no one was dumping loads of paperwork or training schedules on him here.

Having had all of yesterday to pretty much sleep off the massive margarita hangover as a result of her 'celebration' on Thursday, Amaya was feeling better than ever, ready and rearing to move on...to a new semester, of course! Ah, the summer session, and the welcome picnic, and the nice feeling of renewal to encourage one to just put...everything of the past one behind them and onto....something else! No awkwardness or regrets here! Now was the time to just move forward and not look back!

After all, there were meats on sticks from the food tables, what could possibly be wrong in the world, right?

As usual, Rosa was there fulfilling her teacherly duties of being the one teacher who sort of just stood back on the sidelines of everything, watching the picnic with the hopes that something incredibly awkward or embarrassing happened, because, really, who would want to miss something like that? It was worth the risk of the potential of having people trying to talk to her.

On the one hand, the weather meant Isabela's hopes of enjoying the tradition of welcome picnic shirtlessness was were dashed (she was sure she could have talked some of the other teachers into it), on the other it meant that her own shirt was quite soaked. In any case her name tag was clipped to the vee of said soaked shirt.

Jaina was going to be commuting on her work days, but it was worth making an appearance at the picnic and at least seeing who was here.

Also it was nice to be away from palaces and things. Yes, please give her a welcome picnic.

Jon was not wearing a tie today, largely because he hadn't yet found one he liked and he should really probably do some proper shopping. It seemed like meet-and-greet day should be more formal.

He was, however, in a nicely pressed button-up and slacks and a comfy sweater vest.

Lana was still a bit bemused that there were probably still students here she'd gone to school with decades ago. She wondered if any might be taking her class? That would be strange.

Meanwhile, there was a Sith hanging around in a friendly and not at all lurking manner. And she'd managed to get some Earth clothing, so she was in a dark green blazer with grey shirt and trousers, along with sensible low boots to match the jacket. If not for the yellow eyes and Force signature, it was doubtful anybody would know she was Sith.

Gray wished that it was sunny. He hated rain. And cold. But at least he was under a tent, and he'd found a seat at a picnic table so that if (when) he got sleepy he could just...doze off right here...

While it was true that Libby did go home for the past week, she did not, as had seemed to be the plan when she left last Sunday, stay. Nor did she want to, making it even more bizarre and a little disorientating when she woke up that Monday morning feeling almost mortified of the things that had been in her head that weekend. Now that she'd had a taste of all the incredible things that were possible out there in the world, why would she ever want to just go back? When she talked with her mother about it, she was understanding and kind and figured that maybe Libby just had a strong bout of homesickness, which, really, was hardly surprising, all things considered, and so they'd make sure to have a nice week together before she headed back to school again.

And it was nice. Even if it was a little awkward being around some of her siblings, Patience especially. She regarded Libby with a coldness that was unlike anything she'd ever experience before, and she had absolutely no hesitation for telling Libby exactly what she thought about all the horrible things she had done to this family whenever the two of them were alone. Thankfully, it wasn't too hard to avoid her, especially since she was only there for a few days before going back to their father.

...which had been another thing. Her father. She knew she should have seen him while she was there, but she...really didn't want to; she was almost afraid that if she did see him, all those thoughts from the weekend would come back, and he'd convince her to stay after all, and then what? She still felt guilty about it, had felt guilty about it all week, but her mother prayed with her for strength and encouraged her to only take that step if she felt ready. She did leave a tearful message with Just to deliver to him, though, so he'd at least know that, even after everything, she still loved him, of course, and she was sorry...

...but clearly not sorry enough, and, determined to not feel bad about it, Libby had returned that morning, just in time for the welcome picnic and the start of her summer. After she'd had a chance to report in with her Little Sibling and hopefully get him nice and settled like Jo had done for her when she first arrived, she helped herself to a modest amount of food and went to find a dry place to sit.

She was a little worried, though, since she especially wanted to apologize to Kurt, but she still hadn't seen him. And, really, he was pretty hard to miss!

It probably wasn't every day that a somewhat waterlogged young man mounted on an exceptionally large cavy rodent of undeterminable classficiation came riding into town, but today was definitely that day! Graham had already spent a good deal of the morning weaving....a bit wetly.... through the streets of Fandom Island on board his trusty steed and Best Friend Forever, Triumph the Third, and now, finally, he'd made his way over to the welcome picnic, where he took it all in with wide eyes, and excited grin, and, once he got a look at that food spread, a rumble in his stomach.

That he was absolutely going to be blaming on Triumph, giving a little chuckle as he reached down to pet the steed and scratch under his ears a little. "Alright, alright, Triumph," he said, taking a moment to slid off of the creature. "You're right. It's been a long, hard journey for us, hasn't it? Let's see about getting some of that food before we figure out if there's anyone we need to talk to before we get settled. Zounds, though!" His eyes traveled up eagerly toward the casle, before dancing around the picnic and all the people around, far more than he could have ever expected. "We really made it, huh? Fandom High! What adventure awaits for us here?" He chuckled as he narrated his own grand story out loud. "Only time...." He paused for dramatic effect, "shall tell! But I bet...." Here he shamelessly at Triumph, nudging him with an elbow, "it's going to be a real epic-nic experience, eh? EH?"

Triumph did...not look impressed

Tisarwat wasn't about to let something like her roommate being a snake, dreary weather, and the overabundance of finger foods stop her from going to the welcome picnic, if only because she hadn't been doing as well as she should have on the whole Being More Social thing. But it was difficult to not fall into being lazy and feeling like it was all kind of pointless. So don't mind her too much, and especially don't mind the snake settled and curled up around her shoulders more often than not.

She just really hoped that today didn't even up being the day that Lucille turned back, but she supposed that would make the picnic that much more interesting.

Even though Sakaki was a little worried about Hedwig Harry and his hasty departure last night, she was also perfectly content to just sit somewhere off to the side with some of her picnic food and people watch.

...or, apparently, oversized capybara watch, because once Triumph entered her field of vision, it was all over for her being able to pay attention to literally anything else.
