Josh blinked as ~~platypuses~~ ~~platypodi~~ ~~platypodes~~ more than one platypus, omg, went pogo-ing past the door yelling about the regulars.

"You know, I'm not even going to ask any more," he said with a sigh.

He turned around and looked at the class. "I've changed my mind. I'm not the only one who just saw those, right?"

He closed the door. "Okay, today we talk about coalitions--those groups of voters and their lobbying groups that will be calling you at all hours of the day whining about how they are so much more important to your cause than all the other people who are calling and whining."

He ran a hand through his hair. "And if you ever have the misfortune of meeting Amy Gardner over at the Women's Leadership Coalition? Run far, far away. Because she's scary."

Josh went on about the various special interest groups that get involved in campaigns--religious groups, veterans, seniors, ethnic minorities, women--still looking over his shoulder for passing platypuses.

"The trick is making them all think that you are very, very concerned with whatever it is they care about without, you know, actually caring that much about it."

He sat down. "Okay. Let me tell you about your final ~~*handwavy*~~ projects. All semester, you've been learning entirely too much about Tester, Morrison and Burns. Next Thursday, get your groups together and give me a ~~*handwavy*~~ presentation about how you would get your man elected. Message, theme, fundraising, media buys, the whole deal. ~~Except for not really~~ Break into groups, start talking. Or flailing. Or both. Doesn't really matter to me."

Elizabeth listened with half an ear to the lecture on special interest groups (Never did that. Ooh, yeah. Remember all that) She made a mental note to look up an Amy Gardner if she ever got involved with the Women's Leadership Coalition.

She then pulled her laptop and folder out with her all Tester notes and spread them across her desk.

Jake is doodling.

Parker is glaring at the world. And her teammates. "Damnit. Okay. Theme: Experience. Uh. Message?" She poked Jake in the side. "C'mon, Jakey. Gimme a message our boy Burns can say with a straight face."

Jake gave her a panicked look. "Experience Yay?"

Parker *headdesked*. "Okay, we need a why on the Yay. Then maybe it'll work. Experience is better than...?"

Rory started making notes on what they could possibly say to get this guy elected.

She was pretty sure it'd take a bit of tapdancing on their part.

Okay, IC, these things would be a *ton* of work, which is why you don't have to do them. Just have your characters divide up who would talk about message, who would talk about fundraising, who would talk about the media, who would talk about research and staffing, and talk in very, very general terms next Thursday.

You know, pretend like they've learned something all semester :) This is taking the place of a final exam.

Any preference on where Angel should sit today?

None at all. Maybe he should ask both groups which one thinks they'd need him more?

What if no one wants him? Is he free to go? 8)

Then he must do an interpretive dance with a feather boa describing how he feels watching the Republican National Convention.

So act like it's a regular Tuesday, then? 8)

Exactly. He doesn't even need the stilettos :)
