Blair leaned closer and patted her on the back softly. "That's good, man, real good."

"You know you can come talk to me or get hugs or whatever anytime you want, okay?"

"Thanks," she said with a soft smile. "I just don't want to . . . bug you. Especially since you're busy with school and Molly." She smirked swiftly. "Besides, some of the things I have to talk about are the kind that make you want to dive under the bed and stay there."

Blair set down his fork and turned his chair to face her.

"Ivanova, you're my friend and I care about you and what you're going through. If you're happy, I want to hang out with you and be happy. If you're sad, I want to spend time with and comfort you. If you want to talk about..." Blair blushed slightly and squeaked. "Stuff, I want to be there for you and listen. I'm never going to be too busy to be your friend."

"Sweet, Blair," she murmured. Ivanova hesitated a moment before reaching out and patting him on the arm. "I don't think I've ever had a friend who was quite so willing to accept me," she smirked, "stuff and stuff and all."

She sighed again and shook her head. "I've been a bad person, Blair, and I don't want you to know about that part of my life."

"We've all made choices that other people don't understand." Blair nodded. "I once killed a whole family of spiders by stepping on a egg nest on purpose. It wasn't my finest moment."

"But I'm friends with you now, and what I know about you starts with when I met you here. What happened before is in the past and I'm not worried about it."

A family of spiders. Hmm. Somehow not in the same league. She had never had a pacifist friend. One would think Lennier or Delenn would count, but she wouldn't want to face either one of them.

"I dismembered a demon this weekend," she said, seemingly out of the blue. "Ruined a very nice pair of shoes while doing it, too."

[[It's Sentinel o'clock, back in a bit.]]

Meep. Blair took a deep breath and nodded. "Some of us have different talents and abilities and one of your abilities has to do with violence. That doesn't make you bad or anything. The world is made up of balance, light and dark, pain and pleasure, good and not-so-good - and so are you." Blair nodded empathically. "You're not a bad person."

"And I'm sorry about your shoes."

Ivanova smiled at him. "You make it sound very simple, my young friend," she replied. "But somehow I don't think a cafeteria ruled by a Swedish chef and his pet chicken is the proper venue for philosophical debates. But talking with you helps. More than meditation, actually." She made a bit of a face. "I'm a bit too active for meditation.

"And thanks. They were very good shoes."

"Maybe you've just not been meditating with the right person." Blair bounced. "I'm pretty active and I meditate a lot."

"I'm not sure where a better place would be for philosophical debates. The Swedes seem to be into philosphy...and I don't know about chickens, but I wouldn't think they hate it or anything. Except for that whole chicken crossing the road joke. That may get tiring for them after a while."

She hadn't known that, but it made sense. Somehow she didn't think they did it for the same reason. Unless Blair was secretly a PsiCorps plant to draw her out and wow she was really getting paranoid. And she hadn't even been drinking.

She snickered. "Hey, Blair, why didn't the skeleton cross the road?"

Blair blinked and shrugged. "Um...to get to the other side?"

"He didn't have the guts!" she replied with glee. At least she was smiling now.

Blair groaned and laughed.

Ivanova's grin was unrepentent.
