When the students came into the classroom that morning, they'd find they weren't entirely alone. A small collection of mannequins had joined them and the photography equipment, each wearing a ~~highly moddable~~ striking and fashionable sort of outfit. Prompto grinned a little as everyone got settled before he got the ball rolling on today's lesson.

"As you can see," he said, gesturing toward the mannequins with a grin, "we've got some guests to help us out this week, but we'll get to them in a moment. We're going to start by going over last week's assignment, where I wanted you guys to take some shots playing around with lighting, and then we'll move onto the next things. Who's got some good ones they've been just itching to show off this week?"

And once everyone who wanted to had the chance to show off some work and inspire little points of discussion about the use of lighting, Prompto launched into this week's topic. "Great work, guys," he said. "Now, we've been kind of jumping around a little bit....I feel like that's kind of standard for a Fandom High class, though, really, but now that we've been doing this for a while and we've got some basic techniques down, it's time to focus a little on what sort of careers a person can build out of photography. Now, we've already talked about a lot of potential focuses...we've done landscapes, wildlife, portraits, food!....but a really big one, career-wise, for a lot of photographers....and actually something I considered as a potential career if my life hadn't ended up going in a wildly different direction...is fashion photography, which is a huge industry with a lot of different avenues to take, so we're going to dive into some of that today."

With that, then, Prompto took the time to really break down the different types of fashion photography, everything from high fashion to runway to commercial and catalogue and everything in between, what makes them different, and the usual tips and suggestions to help elevate their own pictures.

"And, of course, this is where our very well-dressed mannequins come into play today," he concluded with a grin. "You've got all sorts of lighting and set-dressing stuff to play around with and practice getting some good shots of the fashion on display today, and for next week, I'd like you guys to try and put together a small fashion shot portfolio. Work with each other, your roommates, your friends, pets," he had to grin particularly at that one, "and see what you can come up with. Anything you guys want me to go over again, about the style, the industry, any of the types? Or you guys think you're ready to get shooting?"

Last week was lighting! If you've got some good shots you felt really met the assignment well, now's the chance to show them off to the class and let everyone else ooh and ahhh over your mad lighting skills!

Alara felt that she had actually gotten some pretty good shots of the gym last week with a couple of different lighting techniques. She had used the punching bag to try and take different shots using front lighting techniques.

There were also a couple of shots from where she had lined up the punching bags that she had destroyed at various times and had positioned them on their side to try her hand at side lighting.

Kurt wasn't too sure how his lighting centered photos had turned out so he was a little nervous about showing them to the class. There were some that seemed pretty good to him so maybe they weren't all that bad afterall....

The fact that this particular branch of photography has become a bit of a special interest of Prompto's is clear in the detail and the breakdown, with plenty of use of the mannequins and their various styles to really show off his points and highlight the difference between types of fashion photography and what to really focus on depending on your intent.

Use the mannequins! Use each other! Use...a surprisingly willing but kind of a diva squirrel! Either way, materials and fashions are totally moddable as you start on your path to potential fashion photographer!

Fashion was definitely something that was more of her sister’s area of expertise … Solana could make anything look amazing and it wasn’t something that Alara really knew a lot about so she was mostly trying to arrange different fabrics on the mannequins in an attempt to create some kind of outfit, only it wasn’t really turning out that well.

OK this was totally outside anything Kurt had any experience with. And he suddenly found himself for once wishing he had paid more attention when Kitty, Storm, and Jean had bene talking fashion and clothes and shopping.... they would have been having a blast with this that was for sure. Kurt on the other hand was feeling VERY out of his element.

As there still times where he wistfully sort of wishes life lead him a little bit more down this path? Definitely. Sometimes. But Prompto wouldn't trade the Crownsguard for the world.

It was kind of nice knowing that he, perhaps unlike the others, had something solid he could fall back on, though, if for whatever reason it didn't work out.
