Library - Friday

Jo was wide awake and quite cheerful as she came in to open up the library for her shift after her classes, she didn’t really drink that much caffeine or alcohol so she didn’t need them to get through her day so she hadn’t actually noticed any changes with the lack of both on the island.

Once Jo had reshelved the books that she had to put away she decided to sit at the front desk and get a head start on her letter home to Deirdre to let her know how the trip last week had gone.

Tomorrow’s my first shift back to work after an unexpected two weeks off thanks to covid, so it’s going to be interesting going back.

Troy had come into the library after his classes, squinted a little as he looked around and was very clearly out his element, and then headed over to Jo for help because, like, it was her job, right?

And he got straight to the point.

"So where are the Legos?"

Jo had not listened to the radio this morning and so had missed the news that there had been legos in the library yesterday so she was rather confused when she glanced up from her letter writing, “legos?” she repeated, blinking a bit.

"Yeah," said Troy. "The radio said there was Legos."

Which was very helpful, no doubt.

“Oh,” Jo considered, tilting her head as she glanced over towards the library as she tried to think of where legos might be, “er …there might be some in the children’s section over handwavey location?” she tried, she had no idea if they would actually be there or not but the way the library was sometimes, it wouldn’t surprise her.

And, you know, the childrens' section would make sense and be logical and probably what Troy should have expected, but now he was stuck with the terrible fact that if he wanted Legos, he'd have to go to a place called the children's section.

He was eighteen (nineteen, actually) and about to graduate. He was a full-grown man. Who just wanted some Legos, was that really too much to ask?

If it involved the kid's section and what that would mean to his pride? Yes.

Troy squinted at Jo for a moment as if he thought maybe she was just messing with him, decided she probably wasn't and just shook his head. "Naah," he said, very coolly, "never mind."

And so now he was just standing awkwardly in the library on a failed Lego mission.

"Soooo....." he ventured, "what else you got in here? Books?"

Jo thought that she had given the wrong answer based on Troy’s response so when he asked about the books she felt she could at least be more helpful with that, “oh we do have books,” she nodded, completely sincerely at that as well, “what genre were you after?”

Hopefully they hadn’t switched locations in the time that she had put everything away.

The only answer that came to mind seemed like kind of a long shot, but he also felt like it was really the only response he could make.

"...Lego ones?" he asked, oozing with uncertainty.

“I think we might have Lego graphic novels,” Jo said as she turned to the computer to have a look, which she still not very comfortable using so it took her a while to look up the information, “it looks like we have the meta for Lego Ninjago series?” she said as she looked back up from her computer “and there a few different Lego graphic novels as well if that helps?”
