"Alright, guys," Prompto grinned from where he sat perched on the desk at the front of the class, "welcome back. Hope the week after the school trip hasn't been too terrible; I definitely know how that goes! But I'm sure you have about a million pictures from the trip you want to show off, and I'm really excited to see them, too. So let's not waste any time and get right into that, and, hopefully," here, he chuckled a little, "we'll still have some time left over to talk about today's today's lesson, which is going to be lighting."

In case any of you were wondering about all the...well, lighting equipment in the room right now.

"So let's jump right in. Who'd like to go first? And, obviously, if you want to just show off your work, that's cool, but you'll definitely get bonus points if you can show how you put to use some of the techniques you've been learning about in class, too."

Show Off Last Week's Photos - Photography, 03/03.

Seriously, if you didn't get a million photos during the trip (selfies totally count!), Prompto is going to be disappointed but mostly wonder how he could have failed you that hard. So go ahead and take turn showing off some of your favorite pictures from the school trip, and, if you can, highlight some of your use of technique or skill in particular shots.

Although just showing off pictures of lions or sunsets just because you like them is totally valid!

Alara had in fact taken quite a number of different photos during the trip, she had particularly enjoyed taking photos of the stars at night during their trip to Kenya.

She had also taken quite a few photos of the sunsets and sunrises but she had managed to get some different shots of the wildlife as well.

She knew Solana would be interested in seeing the photos of the trip and so had taken quite a few different extra shots to send to her as well, since it wasn't likely she was going to be going home any time soon.

"Okay," Prompto chuckled after the last student had gone, "maybe that was actually a terrible idea, because now? I kind of just want to go back. But move forward we must, and back into actually learning about photos, because today, we're onto something that's really important and will lead into a lot of what we'll be doing from this point forward, and that's to really get a good grasp on lighting.

"Lighting for photography is everything," he said. "Well, not everything, because everything else we've talk about...angle, depth, rule of thirds....that's all important, too, but it's a lot harder to show off your skills if we can't even really see what you're photographing. And not only does lighting illuminate your subject in more ways than one," yes, he was proud of that one, shhh, "you can also do the opposite and use shadows to make an image pop in unexpected ways. Let me get into it further..."

And, with that, and the use of all the equipment he borrowed from the store, he got into all the nitty-gritty, going on about hard light versus soft light, diffusion, etc, etc, etc....

Practice Lighting! - Photography, 03/03.

"Okay, now," said Prompto as he finished and covered any questions anyone may have had, "in the time we have left, feel free to test out the equipment, take some practice shots to see them work in action, and kind of get a feel for different kinds of lighting. For next week, I'm sure you can guess that I'd like you guys to bring in some pictures that really take advantage of some lighting techniques. If there's any questions about the equipment or if you'd like to borrow something for the week, just let me know."

Talk to the Teacher - Photography, 03/03.

Prompto definitely has a lot of confidence in this class, but he's definitely worried about something happening to that equipment and having to explain himself, but it would be a worthy sacrifice to have to make for art!
