Books vs Movies, Tuesday first period

"Welcome back from break, everybody," Jon greeted them with. "I hope you had enough time to read today's book. It's considered a good one, but it's the movie The Princess Bride that's considered a classic. So let's watch it and consider the differences between the two and why that might be the case. Pay particular attention to the character of Buttercup and to the ending, and remember this film was made in Hollywood in the 1980s."

When they were done, he put the next week's text on the board as always: "We Can Remember it for you Wholesale".

"I don't generally like to repeat authors, but some have had more books adapted than others."

He was desperately trying not to be left with too much Stephen King.

"I liked them both really. I think the changes they made from the book were so it translated better for the screen" Kurt offered after thinking for a few moments. "But side from the main characters I think one of my favorites, for both the book and the movie, is the Impressive Clergyman. And Miracle Max and Valerie were amazing too."

"I think they did a good job bringing them to life. A big part of the success for the movie versions was the actors they got to play them" Kurt said with a thoughtful nod.

“I rather enjoyed both the book and the movie,” Jo said as she considered her response, “I suppose he might have changed the ending if he wanted a more positive outcome for the characters in the movie?”

"I do think that the ending worked better with the changes that they made to the movie," Jo said as she thought about the differences, "even though I did prefer the happier ending," she admitted.

"I prefer the movie," Belle said. A bit shocking, considering the source of that comment. "Buttercup was much more interesting a character in the movie and the happier ending was, I think, a better choice."
