The refurbished ancient temple secret base had definitely taken the place of the classroom sim as Summer's default setting for this class, but, it should be noted, as they gathered in what was going to be called their 'war room,' with the light streaming down from the open slats in the sloped ceiling in dramatic shafts, the vegetation of the jungle outside having overtaken parts of the space as well, it was definitely furnished with all your classic classroom desk and chairs, complete with a roll-away blackboard and everything, because Summer still thought it was funny.

"Alright, everyone!" she said, leaning on the desk at the front of this temple/secret base/classroom. "Today we're talking resoures. We're talking supplies. We're talking about all the stuff you need when staging an uprising and how to get those things when you're really trying to keep on the D-L from the great big planet destroying empires you're taking down. But before I get into any long and boring lecture-y blah-di-blah about supply chains and reliable sources and networking, I want to see what we might be able to get out of it in a discussion first.

"So," Summer continued, "here's our situation. We're here, we're waiting on some information to come through to help us decide on our next move, but we're very quickly running out of fuel, ammunition, and food. Potable water's getting pretty scarce, too, and even though we're on a jungle planet teeming with resources, it's incredibly dangerous, with some mega-brutal fauna and flora. What do you think are some potential options or what kind of action plans would you think would be good to pursue or consider from this point on? And then we'll see if there's anything else left to cover after you guys get the chance to brainstorm a little."

Running out of supplies, oh noes!

You're just diving right into it today. Instead of just boring you with points that you might have brought up and thought of yourself, Summer wants to let the ideas fly between everyone and make it a team effort where everyone's opinion is, like, actively involved and shit or whatever, but she is poised and ready at the chalkboard with her chalk to start jotting things down as they come up and hopefully inspires at least a few discussions between everyone as well.

And, of course, whatever doesn't get covered, in a very handwavey and clearly TBD sort of way, Summer will go over after the discussion, hitting on things that may not have been mentioned and expanding the perspective on how to deal with tricky dwindling supplies for further discussion/consideration.

Should you need her outside of the context of the lecture or discussion, Summer is definitely there!

Alara Kitan

“I suppose we could always pair up when looking for supplies?" Alara suggested as she considered a response, "that way no one would be alone trying to tackle any dangerous fauna and flora,"

Vi directed her answer at the ceiling. "You tighten your belt, learn to deal with going hungry, and don't ask too many questions about the ingredients in your dinner."

Summer promptly scribbled down Team up for scavenging on the board.

"And, hey!" she offered optimistically. "If that doesn't work out, that's at least two fewer mouths to feed, right? Soooo, keeping in mind that you're also running out of ammo, who would you propose to send out? What's the best use of your known resources in a savenging mission?"

Summer turned to write Ride it out on the board, which worked well to deal with her hesitation before responding.

"So....that's it?" she asked. "Drop a couple LBs and wait for your luck to turn around?"

Vi shrugged. "Probably not the ideal option, but it's simple enough a kid could do it," she said. "And if you've already fucked up enough to be in this position, simple's harder to fuck up more."

Kurt Wagner

"Would be important to take stock of what talents and weaknesses there are in the team" Kurt offered. "Some could forage or scout out for supplies elsewhere to raid, someone could work on a way to signal for help and get more supplies... it depends on who all you are with and what assets people have to bring to the table. Ya know, build on strengths and try to shore up weaknesses."

Kurt had been meaning to talk to Summer for the last couple of classes and had totally been too busy to track her down during the school trip. So after class he made his way over.

"Sorry to bother you after class, Miss Summer" he said with a somewhat awkward smile. "I've been meaning to tell you something and keep getting distracted or running out of time during class. I've really been enjoying the class. A lot." He said with a grin. "It reminds me of a lot of the classes and mission scenarios they have us do back at the Academy. And I... I've been learning some really interesting things so... thank you."

"That's a fair point," Summer allowed, with a little nod of agreement. "Do you think there's a line, though?" She held up a hand, bladed to sort of a use as a guage along that line. "Where things push past 'oh, we've fucked up this bad already, better not push it' to 'oh, we've fucked up so bad, what've we got to lose'?"

Summer nodded a little, and added 'Reasses' and 'Signal for help' on the board.

"Good," she said. "Since Alara already covered salvaging and forgaging a little, let's focus more on this last one, signaling for help. How do you think would be the best way to go about something like that? Just a simple S.O.S. to hope someone catches it? Something more concentrated or focused? Who might you try to get a hold of?"

Considering how much of this semester (and, let's face it, a few other semesters, too) had sort of been Summer waffling a little on wondering if she should really just stick to traumatizing people with jello, it was kind of nice to hear, and she just gave Kurt a small smile and a shrug of her shoulders.

"Well," she said, "that is kind of my job, so...they gotta pay me for something, right?"

But, weird awkward modesty and self-doubt aside, she added, "But good. I'm glad you're finding it helpful."

"When you start considering turning not asking questions about what you're eating into who." Sure, even down in the depths of the sump stories about that one bad winter were just stories (probably), but the whole reason they were scary was that you could understand being just that hungry.

"So then what's your plan?" asked Summer, trying very hard to keep a certain wryness out of the quirk of her brow, the tilt of her head. And at least slightly validated that at least hers wasn't the only brain that went there, especially since...well...it had been there before. "When you start wondering less about what your teammates' muscles can do and more about how they'll taste instead?"

"If you can leave, cut your losses and get out. Nothing noble or glorious about starving to death because you can't admit you're beat."

"There is a good chance," Summer allowed, looking thoughtful, "that there is just enough fuel left to ditch the place. So then it's a matter of figuring out where to go to next. So what would be the things to consider when making that exit?"

“I guess you’d have to look at what skills people have and if they’d be able to protect themselves while trying to get supplies,” Alara considered, “especially if there’s not enough ammo to take with them,”
