PE and Health Class - Friday - First Period

No gym for the danger shop today! Instead, the class would find themselves outside on a bright and temperate day, with a smooth road beneath their feet and scenic vistas all around. And if that left anyone confused as to what they'd be learning about that day, well….the row of bicycles lined up neatly in a row beside the instructors should be a pretty good indication.

"A bit of an upgrade from the butt scooters," Gladio offered with a grin. "Today, we're doing bikes."

"Which really is a rite of passage so definitely something we need to cover in this class" Dwight said enthusiastically. "And don't worry, if anyone hasn't ridden a bike before or it's been a while we are going to start with the basics."

And he really meant the basic basics as Dwight gestured towards the table set up nearby that had all the necessary safety gear ready to go. The instructors were already geared up with their helmets because, naturally, the best way to lead was by example!

"Safety first, so be sure to grab a helmet and pads. Then we can get started!"

Jo had never ridden a bike before and definitely looked rather anxious and really unsure of herself as she struggled to stay upright on her bike before she attempted peddling.

She did not last long before she and the bike toppled over in a heap.

At least she was wearing a helmet and pads?

This was at least something that Guillermo could manage somewhat and while he wasn't very fast at bike riding, he managed to stay on the bike and complete the beginner's course.

Kurt hadn't done much bike riding since he was a little thing. But it was true what they said, you really never forgot how to ride a bike. And in no time he was peddling around the course and eyeing the more advanced course thoughtfully. There was a benefit in having an innately good sense of balance... but keeping that tail out of the way of the back spokes... that took a little more concentration than he remembered.

Kurt made his way over to Jo and helped her up. "You alright there, Jo?"

Jo nodded, rather embarrassed as Kurt helped her up, “I think so?” she winced a bit at the effort it took to get up, “I’ve … I’ve never ridden a bike before,” she admitted.

"Really?" Kurt asked as he picked up the bike for her. "Well, if you want I can hold it for you if you want to just focus on getting the balance bit done without having to pedal and do everything else at the same time?" Kurt asked with a friendly grin.

“My mother didn’t think it was appropriate for me to learn, said it wasn’t proper,” Jo revealed, blushing a bit as she said it, “but I…. I can try focusing on my balance, see if I can at least manage to sit upright?”

Kurt started to say something about how that was a weird thing for parents to not want their daughter to learn how to do. But he thought better of it, not wanting to make Jo any more embarrassed or uncomfortable. So eh gave her a reassuring grin and a nod instead.

"Aye! I'm sure you can do it!" he said encouragingly as he held the back of the seat and held the bike as steady as he could for her.

Jo nodded, “thank you,” she said gratefully with a shy smile and climbed back on the bike.

She was still a bit hesitant but she seemed to be able to focus on keeping herself steady while Kurt was holding the back seat of her bike.
