"Last week," Ignis started the class that morning with a faint smile that actually seemed somewhat less subtle than his usual retrained expressions of amusement, "we learned quite a bit with cleaning, didn't we? And while there are quite a few more essential lessons to be learned in regards to proper home maintenance ahead of us, I thought perhaps we could take it a little bit easier today before we get into the Next Big Thing."

And when words like 'take it easy' escaped from Ignis Scientia, you knew he was in either a remarkably good mood or had perhaps been bit by a gremlin or replaced with someone else entirely.

"Today," he continued, "I'd like you all to work together in planning for a party. After all, entertaining guests and serving as a good host is a crucial part in maintaining a household, and, quite frankly, it's one of the more enjoyable aspects of it, as well. But that doesn't mean that it may not require careful planning and deliberation to make it go smoothly and well so that your guests may have an evening to remember that they will surely talk about for years to come.

"As I said, I'd like you to all work together in planning for this party, so it will serve as an excellent team building exercise as well. Things you'll need to determine: what kind of party is it? What will it be for? Who will be the likely guests and how will you invite them? You'll want to determine things like food, beverages, entertainment....decor, venue, and any other considerations that may fall into place as you start to plan for your event. I will, of course, be here if you have any questions, but I would like to see you all use your ecclectic mix of backgrounds and experiences to come together and collaborate on a truly great soirree. For the purposes of this exercise, your budget is unlimited, although, depending on what you decide to go with, we may examine such expenses more closely in a future class to get a better handle on just how far an entertainment dollar can or cannot stretch.

"And, with that, I'll leave you to it, and I look forward to hearing what you come up with by the end of class."

Because even when he puts together his version of a 'blow off class,' there's still quite a bit of preamble to get to it, and he'd be more than happy to field questions before leaving you all to your own devices.

With endless budget and possibilities for details, the real challenge here will be to come to a consensus! But get together with your classmates and try to figure out what kind of party you'd like to host and work together to hammer out all the finer details!

This was definitely something that Jo was at least familiar with thanks to all the parties her parents threw at home, even though her ideas for a party were most likely rather old fashioned so hopefully someone would have more modern ideas for her to be able to work with.

"What about a fancy dress party?" Kiem said. He had never arranged any kind of party, but he had been to quite a few, some of them formal and terribly dull, so at least he knew what to avoid.

"Oh a fancy dress party would be fun thing to try and plan," Guillermo nodded, not that he had any experiences with throwing a party or actually being invited to them for that matter, "is that like a costume party or a black tie event party?" he asked curiously.

"Costumes," Kiem said. "Although I suppose back ties could be costumes. Unless they are formal, are they? I guess you could have a formal dress costume though."

"I've never been to a fancy dress party or a costume party before," Libby admitted, eagerly listening in. She'd never been to any party before, really, except for backyard picnics and church potlucks. "So both of those sound amazing. Especially if budget is really no object."

If it was just an imaginary party, anyway, why not just go all out?

“I mean I’ve never been to both,” Guillermo admitted rather awkwardly, “but an unlimited budget does make it easier … especially for things like catering and music you need those for parties right?”

"We should have a theme," Kiem said. "Any suggestions?"

“A …a masquerade ball is always fun,” Jo spoke up rather nervously, “I know the adults had one in town last year but my parents often had them at home,” she said shyly.

Who will insist he has not even seen a gremlin around lately, much less been bitten by one, thank you.

This class brought to you by the fact that my work schedule keeps shifting to an even earlier start time than before and I absolutely do not have the brain to write a lecture about food safety at four o'clock in the morning this week, especially since I think my coffee might be broken.
