Drama, Friday, January 13, 2022

Anakin waited until the entire class was assembled in the auditorium before flinging the doors open with the Force and striding inside.

"The most important part of drama is making an impression!" he boomed as he made his way up the aisle, robe flapping behind him like he'd been practicing it for decades.

Was making an impression actually the most important part of drama? Probably not, but Anakin wasn't exactly researching this subject.

"If you cannot draw someone's eye, they will never pay attention to the words you are saying!" he added. "So today, we will work on making a dramatic first impression. I have plenty of robes for everyone."

Because that would help? Maybe?

"Do I have to?" came a voice from… not the aisle.

Anakin was a Jedi Master and was therefore not at all surprised that they'd been joined by someone else. So…just ignore that little startle he'd done right then, please and thank you. "You absolutely have to," he said, turning towards the voice. "The robe is optional."

"Ugh," said the voice again.

After a moment, with some bumps and stomps, a robed figure shaped like Jaye made her way into the aisle, arms folded over her chest, hood down revealing only a scowl. Which actually probably made her look like a short Anakin?

And then she kind of stomped down like a four-year-old who was supposed to be watching this, Anakin, god.

Anakin snorted. "Behold."

"It's an entrance!" And it was, in fact, dramatically grumpy.

Anakin laughed. "It is. Class, this is my old friend Jaye. You might remember her from the pageant we watched last week. She will help me judge your entrances."

"And oh, I will be judging," she said, still from under the hood. Maybe she'd just keep it on?

The hoods were terribly comfortable. Anakin waved his hand. "You have ten minutes to practice. We'll start with…you," he said, pointing at random.

So Guillermo had perhaps already made a lasting impression on Saturday and not in a good way but he at least resisted the urge to use jazz hands as he attempted to make a dramatic entrance.

He had decided to use a staff as a prop as he tried to make his entrance and not be too distracted by his robe.

"I'm Guillermo - whoa," he had also picked a robe that was a tad too big for him and as he started to make his big entrance, he tripped over his robe and face planted on the ground. Glasses dangling from one ear.

“Oof,” he groaned.

One day he would make a dramatic and memorable entrance rescuing a group of vampires but needless to say his dramatic entering skills needed a lot of work.

Guillermo tried to awkwardly laugh it off as he scrambled to his feet, “that wasn’t even the first time I’ve done that today,” he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, running had been interesting in PE.

Jaye held up an index card with a 6 written in Sharpie.

Like Guillermo, Kiem might have made a slightly different impression with the jazz hands, but he was going to ignore that.

At least he had plenty of family members who would be able to pull this off perfectly, but Kiem was a bit too young, as well as being too much of a black sheep to be allowed to play a prominent role in anything official at the Imperial court.

He also might not have a talent for it. Still, he tried to think of someone who would do this well, not his mother or the Emperor herself, that would be awkward, but his cousin prince Vaile? She would at least make it elegant.

So Kiem ended up with awkward and elegant, and an attempt to not too obviously posing for the journalists with cameras.

Jaye considered it, and held up the 6 index card again, then took it back down and scrawled "3/4" on it.

Hood flipped up over her head, Vi leapt lightly down from scaffolding to scaffolding until she hit the floor with a rolling landing.

Without a safety cord.

What? It might have caught on something!

Vi all but beamed back at him. She hadn't even realised she cared about his opinion of her, but apparently...

Jaye took the 6 index card, flipped it over to be a 9, and held her finger over the 3/4.

If one looked very carefully, they'd see a small tendril of ivy poking out from one of the wings of the stage. Followed by another tendril, then another...

As the mass of tendrils moved towards the stage, they got larger, large enough to carry with them one human-sized Earth fairy with eyes glowing a deep emerald under that thoughtfully-supplied robe's hood. The ivy tendrils gently lowered Terra to the floor before retreating back to the wings.

Jaye kept the 6 index card flipped to be a 9, and took her finger off the 3/4.

She didn't know what would get a 10 so she was holding out.
