Great Legends of Hyrule; Wednesday, Third Period [01/12].

"Welcome back, everyone!" Sidon greeted the class with the expected exhuberance from the front of the classroom, his grin" sharp and eager as they all settled in. "I hope you've all had a truly fantastic week, and that you are ready to take our first bold step into the Great Legend of Hyrule now that we can begin in earnest! I will have to admit, I had a very difficult time trying to decide where we should venture first, but there is truly but one legend that, unfortunately, looms quite powerful and real in Hyrule during our present day that there could be no other place to start than with that of Ganon, the calamitous one.

"Now, this is a legend that comes to us in song, and though I could not manage to bring the famed and fabled bard known as Kass to our classroom today, I have still managed to bring his song to us through modern technology, so let us take a moment," perhaps a bit longer than a moment, as Sidon was not at all very technologically proficient and it took him little doing to get the audio to play for the students, "to listen, and then we shall discuss!"

And with that, a melody began to play on an accordian-like instrument despite the piano in the clip, shh, and a melodious voice joined in with the following lyrics:

"The kingdom of Hyrule is a vast and storied land,
Oft grasped in the palm of a villainous hand.

A dark force of destruction, many times undone,
Rises once again–Ganon, the calamitous one.

But hope survives in Hyrule, for all is not lost,
Two brave souls protect it, no matter the cost.

A goddess-blood princess and a fearless knight,
They appear in each age to fight the good fight.

Their battle with Ganon I've committed to song,
To keep it through time, no matter how long.

Now begins the second verse, listen and you'll know,
Of their battle with Ganon 10,000 years ago.

The kingdom of Hyrule was once a land of lasting peace /
A culture of such strength and wit, that suffering did cease.

But Ganon lurked beneath the surface, strengthening its jaws /
So the ancient people of Hyrule set out to help the cause.

Their efforts bore fruit in an automated force,
To help avert Calamity by sealing it at its source.

Four giant behemoths for which power never ceased,
Each of these titans was called a "Divine Beast."

And free-willed machines that hunted down their prey /
These Guardians were built to last so they could join the fray.

To guide the beasts in battle, warriors were needed,
So four Champions were pledged to see Ganon defeated.

Divine Beasts, Champions, princess, and knight,
Their plan to rout Ganon was looking airtight.

And when Calamity Ganon reared its head, Hyrule rose against it /
The optimism of Hyrule all the more incensed it.

Ganon raged in its assault, boiling with hate,
It gnashed its teeth and thrashed about, but it was all too late.

The Guardians kept the heroes safe through every hour...
The Divine Beasts unleashed attacks that weakened Ganon's power.

The hero with the sealing sword struck the final blow,
And the holy power of the princess sealed Ganon so.

And that is the story of the brazen attack,
On Calamity Ganon 10,000 years back.
"

Sidon was quiet for a long, long moment after the song had ended, his expression gone a little distant, and he seemed as though he'd forgotten entirely where he was or what he was doing. But when the silence dragged on a little bit, he blinked, shook his head, and seemed to rouse himself back to the classroom and the lesson, and seemed to shake it off with a laugh.

"So!" he declared. "As you heard, this is a truly ancient tale, going all the way back to the very beginning of Hyrulian history, 10,000 years back, and the first appearance," he gave a wan sort of smile, "of the great and powerful Calamity Ganon. This particular legend is the foundation of many of the other tales you will hear in this class, and that we will revisit for another time, but for now, let us focus on the basic elements.

"There is, of course, the mention of the ancient technology developed by a people known as the Sheikah, who constructed machines called Guardians and the great and powerful Divine Beasts, behemoths, as the song describes them, and truly formittable monsters of magnitude! And Four Champions chosen to guide the Divine Beasts to battle against the rising threat! But, in addition to these Champions, there are two other figures even more central to the battle that drove back the Calamity 10,000 years ago: Two brave souls protect it, no matter the cost, a goddess-blood princess and a fearless knight! The blood of the goddess Hylia, from which all things come, runs through the royal line of Hyrule, and her power is said to run through the princess, while there is a fearless knight of bravery who will weild the Sword that Seals the Darkness, and, together, with their combined powers, they drove back to the Calamity so that Hyrule could flourish and prosper over the next several millenia into a vast and peaceful land."

He seemed to trail off a little before adding this next part, significantly more subdued, "Of course, a peace like that...cannnot last forever, and this great legend has turned out to have more truth to it than one might have ever expected. Because while the ancient Hylians were able to drive back the Calamity, the Calamity could not stay sealed forever....

"But that," he broke out into a soft, almost apologetic sort of grin, "is a legend for another time! Let us turn our focus simply onto this ancient relic and the song that informs us of it, and speculate. Have you any thoughts about the legend as a whole? Can you think of any other legends in your own histories that may contain such a magnitude of an event such as this? Have you any theories or guesses on how this legend may have shaped life in Hyrule as it is today?"

Well, those who took his last class probably knew that it influenced it much more than he was letting on, but, again, that was a legend for another day, and he turned his attention eagerly toward the students.

"Please, I am eager to hear your thoughts!"

“Well on Xelaya there are legends that we used to belong to an ancient empire over 3 and a half million years ago,” Alara offered, “when there was a revolt, the empire hid a fleet because they planned to reclaim their territory only it remains lost and to this day researchers keep trying to locate where it could be,”
