Books vs Movies, Tuesday first period
"Good morning." Jon nodded to the class; he still looked a bit run-down, but he was putting on a brave - or at least an in-denial - face.
"I hope you all got myhandwavey assignment, since I forgot to put it on the board last week," he began. "It's a little past the season, but I thought starting with "A Christmas Carol" would be interesting. There are around a hundred different movie and TV versions; it's been pretty popular.
"There are a lot of versions we could be watching, but I've chosen one that's both a more unique take than some, and yet gets across the basics of the story idea. So let's watch it, and then we can discuss the similarities and differences."
After class was over, he wrote the next assignment on the board: Exodus, chapters 4 through 15.

Listen to the lecture and watch the movie!
For one thing, Dickens had fewer Marleys.
For another, Cratchit is a lot less green.

And hadn't that large blue bird been here over the summer?

"But the movie!"
Excuse her a moment. Not only was this one of her first experience with movies, but it was also one of her first experiences with Muppetness, and how could that be anything but magical?
"I loved how so many of the characters were puppets, but they played it like they weren't, like they were just regular old people, and the songs! They were so lively and spirited and beautiful and sometimes sad. We don't really celebrate Christmas, not like most people do, but I think if more people could open their hearts to the spirit of it the way old Mr. Scrooge did, then I think it'd be a happier season for everyone."
Then she smiled, a little sheepishly.
"I guess that's not saying much about the differences between the two of them, I guess, I was just...it's hard, I really did love them both so much! I think, though, that....the movie seems like it would be more fun for Littles; I could see some of my siblings getting a little bored with the book, but they'd love all the songs and silliness."
Re: Class activity
In case you hadn't figured that out.
Re: Class activity
“I …I sometimes found the book a bit challenging to read, I’ve never read Dickens before,” she admitted, “I did enjoy the book though and the movie was rather splendid, I …I enjoyed watching that a lot,”
