Books vs Movies, Tuesday first period

"Good morning, class." Jon looked simultaneously wide awake and as if he hadn't slept. (Which, to be fair, he hadn't much.) "Those of you who haven't had me before, I'm Mr. Sims, and this is...well, a literature class, mostly, but also something I hope you'll find engaging.

"A lot of stories over the years have been written down and then made into films. Erm, for those of you not from this world or era, those are a method of recording and then showing stories visually. It's generally a process to move a story from written to filmed form, and changes are made for a variety of reasons. We're going to be reading a story each week, and then viewing a film that's been made from it, and we'll discuss the similarities and differences and what we think of them.

"Today, though, is for introductions. I should like to hear your names, which year you're in...erm, that is, in the school, although if you're from another year in time, that might be good to know, too...and if you have a favorite book or film or film made from a book."

He nodded at the first student to start.

Oh, this class was much more in line with what Libby had been expecting out of a more worldly school (although the blossoming nurse within her couldn't help feeling terribly concerned about the state of their poor teacher), and it helped that both Jo and Kurt were there in the class with her, so unlike her class yesterday, she felt more like she could relax and be herself.

"Hello!" she said, and she would probably never really tire of the novelty of introducing herself to a classroom with absolutely no one she was related to in it! "My name is Liberty Hazlett, although most people just call me Libby, and I'm a sophomore. I guess I should say," her smile held the faintest traces of sheepish apology in it, "that the Bible's my favorite book, but, truth be told, I've probably read through all my meta for Narnia books just about nearly as much! My friend Zo also introduced me recently to the King of the Bracelet books, too, and those are just..."

She cut herself off, with a sort of sparkle in her wide eyes as she shook her head. "Oh, I'm just loving them, they're wonderful, and it turns out the authors of the two series actually knew each other and were inspired by each other, too! Isn't that just something else?

"Oh!" she added, because she realized she was doing it again, probably talking far too much, but she remembered there was a little more to Mr. Sims' question. "And my family doesn't actually have a TV, so I wouldn't know anything about the film side of this class, but I'm really excited to learn more...or anything, really!...about movies, especially based on books!"
