Journalism 101/201 (Friday, April 14 - 7th period)

Rita's computer was out on the desk, and over the course of the hour, she played the last week's radio podcasts in the background.

"Find flaws in the way the radio is done, as far as it being a reliable source of news. Is it fair, the way that some broadcasters paint students, town residents and teachers? And what about events that are catastrophically exaggerated?" she said, picking up a newspaper with moving photographs and sitting back. "Discuss."

"Oh," she added in an edit as an afterthought, "your project due date is now the fifth of May. And I expect your proposal for your interview subjects - who you're planning to interview, that is - and any information on where you're going on my desk by Wednesday, in writing."

Peter signed in without asking Rita about the cleaning product hooch she was being quiet about on last night's radio broadcast.

Because that would be rude. And dumb.

Anakin signed in, still cranky about last night's broadcast.

He smiled when he heard the assignment.

It wasn't a nice smile.

Peter thought about this. "The biggest flaw I see is that it sounds like the notes the broadcasters work from don't provide the necessary elaboration for a third party to properly interpret them. Without the proper context, the broadcaster's own personal bias when reading their notes can influence the factual news and turn it into fiction with only a fragment of truth in it through no fault of the broadcaster themself. You might even be able to turn talk of housecleaning into an off-the-cuff comment about boozing it up without even trying, really, if you don't have the right context."

Anakin nodded. "Or even through the fault of the broadcaster, if they have a particular slant on a person they feel necessary to share with the entire town."

He glared at Professor Skeeter. "And there is nothing kinky between Master Kenobi and I, thank you very much."

"Somehow, I really doubt that." He paused. "What were you doing with the bleach, anyway? If I were on the radio, I'd think maybe...making alcohol." He smiled at Peter. "But that's just me. It might've sounded differently to someone else."

Peter wondered how both Lyman and Anakin came up with the same idea about the bleach. It was like they were sharing a brain or something.

Or it could be the thing Peter said earlier about the booze. Either way worked as a possible solution.

"Sure you were," Anakin said.

While Peter was glad he didn't have to do any finger pointing at the broadcasters - which he could do - he was disappointed that this gave Skeeter a dodge on the moonshine reference. Oh well.

Um. You want our interview subjects on your desk by Wednesday?

There are two jokes there, one dirty, one clean. Take your pick.

I'm just thankful you don't actually want my fake girlfriend on a desk. Dirty or not. :)

Now you want us to get engaged to our subjects on your desk and information on the honeymoon? :)
