BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Sunday Morning.

Oh, praise Jesus, she'd finally found it! Libby felt the most immense sense of relief wash over her when she spotted that large, glittery banner hanging over the waiting area for Fandom High, like a shining beacon, and not a moment too soon! This was the first time she'd ever really been anywhere entirely by herself like this, and it had been incredibly overwhelming. Exciting, yes, but it was a lot to take in! The only thing she could really think to compare it to was when they all packed up to go out to the Wal-Mart for groceries, but even then, she had her whole family with her. And now it was just her and a single suitcase and a pamphlet clutched in her hand, and she thought she'd get lost entirely in such a big place all on her own, but she found it! This was the place!

And she was apparently even a little early, since it looked like she might be the first one there? And even that was a little bit of a relief, because that meant she could just move away from the crowds moving around the airport into the quiet little space under the sparkly banner, have a seat, and just sort of breathe again before the next leg of her journey. An actual high school! Well, a little bit different, she supposed, because it was a boarding school, but as she took her seat, she started to feel that terrible and wonderful nervous turning in her stomach again, and she closed her eyes and she breathed out and she put her hands together to say a little prayer for strength and guidance, and couldn't help smiling a little as she felt a sense of serenity settle her nerves again.

It was scary, being out here by herself like this, but it was also thrilling, and she'd made it this far already, she was halfway there! Now she felt relaxed and ready, opening her eye and looking around for a clock, fussing a little with her long skirt and buttoned-up blouse and wondering if she should have worn more worldly jeans after all, to fit in better, but she didn't need to make herself feel more awkward than she already did with unfamiliar clothes. She just hoped it wouldn't be too much longer for the shuttle to arrive to whisk her away to the next part of this adventure.

“It’s nice to meet you too Kurt,” he grinned back, “yeah I’m going to Fandom High, first time going to boarding school actually,” he admitted.

"This is my second high school" Kurt confessed. "It was a bit... hard for me back there. So the Professor decided Fandom High might be better for me.". Ya know... for reasons. Not the least of which being the obvious skin tone fact.

"Glad i am not the only new guy in the school this semester" he said, giving Guillermo a grin.

“Oh, I can understand that my last school wasn’t…that great either and then I won this scholarship,” even though admittedly his high school experience so far had been more for the fact that the other kids had just considered him to be uncool and had bullied him because of it.

Guillermo wasn’t sure how he had won the scholarship since he hadn’t applied but he wasn’t going to complain about the opportunity. “this is my first time out of New York and everything,” he told Kurt.

He grinned back at that last bit “Same here, I wasn’t sure how many new kids there would be but us new guys have to stick together right?”

It had sounded a lot better in his head, now Kurt was going to think he was just desperate for friends …which okay he was but did he have to be so obvious about it?

Oh there was no need to worry about seeming too desperate there. Kurt was just as surprised to have gotten this far into the conversation already to be honest.

"Definitely. Will be good to have a familiar face in some of these classes at least."

Kurt paused for a moment before continuing. "You said you got a scholarship for Fandom High? That's really cool!"

“Same, I didn’t have a choice in classes since the scholarship was rather specific so I’m not too sure what to expect,” he admitted.

“the scholarship was definitely a surprise,” Guillermo grinned, “I never even applied for it and the acceptance letter turned up and everything …”

"I didn't get to pick most of my classes either" Kurt said with a slightly annoyed sigh as his face scrunched up a bit. "The Professor back home in New York picked most of them. Said he wanted to make sure I had a well-rounded experience right off the bat and that I didn't waste my time with easy fluff classes."

Kurt gave a little mocking head shake and chuckled as he looked over at Guillermo.

"So I guess I will figure out what the semester holds in store for me once everything kicks off. And..." he added somewhat awkwardly as he gave a shy grin at the other boy "I hope most of the other students are cool too."

“Oh you’re from New York as well?” Guillermo said excitedly, he hadn’t expected to meet someone from New York already, “I mean I’m from New York City, the Bronx to be exact, I live there with my mum,” there was a pause as he considered the rest of what Kurt was saying, “me too,” he said, returning that shy grin, “I haven’t … I’m kind of … well I’ve never been … well popular,” he admitted, “I’m hoping Fandom can be a bit of a fresh start at least in that regard, it’d be nice to have … to have friends,” he stammered a bit because he was aware of how awkward and dorky he was sounding right now.

"Upstate New York" Kurt said with a nod. "Been to the city a few times. Bit too big and busy for my liking. Though, to be fair, I don't much like crowds and people in general for... obvious reasons". And this was only the tip of the iceberg really, but Kurt was just glad to have someone talking with him and being friendly. He just hoped deep down that Guillermo wouldn't change his mind about being friendly when a few of his other quirks started to come out.

"I had to come here on our private jet because most people can't handle... this" he said giving a casual hand wave at himself. "But I hate flying as much as anyone so a faster and easier flight is welcomed any time. Less time spent fiddling with the Rosary too" he said with a slight chuckle because yeah... spending an entire flight in fervent prayer was not his idea of a fun time.

“Oh, oh …” Guillermo belatedly realised why a lot of people would have issues, honestly he was just excited that he was actually able to talk to have a conversation with someone and he also thought Kurt’s appearance was really cool but he thought that might not be the right thing to say.

“A private jet’s still pretty cool right? I came here on the bus, I haven’t flown anywhere before,” he revealed, “oh you have a rosary?” Guillermo’s strict catholic upbringing definitely picked up on that, “I have one too, I mean I don’t do the rosary nearly as much as I should despite mum’s best efforts to change that,” he said a bit sheepishly.

"Yeah, folks who adopted me and raised me since I was a baby were very devout" Kurt said. "And growing up I didn't have a lot of friends really ( any he didn't have any friends ) and when you grow up like that... well... it helps being able to talk to someone who's always there."

Kurt trailed off at that point, realizing that he probably sounded a bit silly, even to someone who shared the same basic faith.

"I did hear that there is a church on the island where the school is," he offered a moment later. "So maybe they will at least have Mass for special holidays and such."

“Oh I can understand that … I mean not for the same reasons,” he added even though he realised he probably hadn’t needed to add that, “but back home it was just me and my friend Jeremy, not many people wanted to associate with us,” Guillermo still felt rather bad that he was leaving his only friend behind but Jeremy had seemed just as excited about Guillermo going to this mysterious school than he was.

“My mum’s devout, even though I suppose when you have a surname like de la Cruz and that literally means of the cross … it would kind of be hard to avoid that,” Guillermo admitted, “she's very strict but she was supportive of me coming to Fandom," he added, "but being able to still go to church at Fandom does nice though, I mean ... to still be able to have that option while going to school," as conflicted as he sometimes was about his faith and everything, he still wanted to try and make the effort to stay connected with that part of him.

"They probably have other students who are devout or at least somewhat devout if they have a church there and everything" Kurt reasoned with a nod. "If nothing else it would give us an excuse to try and go more often. Could even check it out together sometime if you wanted. Once things settle down. I'm sure it will be a bit insane the first week or so!"

Because as much as Kurt liked his private prayer time and meditation, there was something drawing to the idea of actually being able to share at least part of it with someone who would understand a bit more than most would.

“You know I’d like that,” Guillermo said with a warm if somewhat shy smile, “I imagine trying to get settled in will be quite busy the first week with classes and trying to figure out where everything is on the island but checking out the church would be nice to do … I’ve never met someone who was …you know is open about their faith until I came here,” after talking to Libby he knew she was also religious, even though he hadn't heard of her religion before, “I mean aside from my mum and the people at my church I mean,” he added.

"It's been said that the ability to embrace our similarities and differences is what makes us human. Pretty sure that extends to us mutants as well" Kurt said with a nod. "I think we are all more similar than most want to realize. Just too many people are too busy to see the similarities because of the differences."

And no... no he had NOT just paraphrased something the Professor had told him before they parted ways earlier that day. Not at all.... not at least that Kurt would ever admit.

“That’s .. wow I never thought of it like that before,” Guillermo blinked and tilted his head slightly as he considered Kurt’s words, “that’s definitely one way of looking at it,”

Don’t worry Kurt, Guillermo will never know any better … he definitely thought that was a very impressive speech.
