Introduction to Archaeology

Daniel smiled at the small class. "First, we're going to talk about building the Great Pyramid," he said. He lectured them, complete with slides from his own trip to Egypt.

"Now, I did consider borrowing the Danger Shop for you to see what it was like for you to build your own pyramid," he grinned, eyes twinkling. "But I figured we'd stick with the BBC again this week, and their virtual pyramid builder.

How many days did it take you to travel along the Nile?
How many years did it take to build your pyramid? Did you manage to build it at all?"

Molly sort of paid attention to the lecture, but is glad for the distraction the game gives her.

Her first try isn't very successful though. It took her 30 days to get up the Nile and she made the angle on her pyramid too steep and was sent into exile.

Blair played the game. A lot. A lot, a lot, a lot. Finally deciding that he needed to learn to play video games more, he sent his second in command up the Nile. Sure it took 60 days, but his own average of 57 with major boat damage wasn't that impressive. Stupid hippos.

Then he lost several times in a row because the king estimated that it would take him 'infinity' amount of time to build the pyramid. Stupid king.

Blair was positive this game had been built by the establishment to brainwash students into thinking it was okay to work people without decent wages, food, or unions.

But since it was for a class, he compromised his ideals and gave the workers less food per day and less time off and built his pyramid in 27 years and 60 days.

But a little piece of Blair died on that Egyptian plateau. A little piece called humanity.

After playing a few more times, Molly moved over so that she could talk quietly to Blair.

"I'm sorry I didn't call you last night. I got so busy trying to distract myself from worrying about Cam, that I forgot I told you I would."

Blair nodded and turned to look at her. "I understand, I guess. Did distracting yourself work?"

Molly sighed. "Enough to keep me from making myself sick," she said with a wry grin. "But, Charlie and Aeryn have sort of figured out what's going on so we are going to do something about it tonight. Hopefully everything will be back to normal by tomorrow."

"Well, I'm glad things are figured out." Blair was really trying not to be upset, but he suddenly had a greater appreciation for how Molly felt when he didn't talk to her.

Molly nodded and gave him a small grin. She had no clue if it actually was figured out yet, but she didn't want to get into what was really going on. "So, did you get soaked any more after lunch yesterday?"

Blair smiled back and nodded. "Yeah, a lot, actually. I decided to experiment this morning and see if I could get some parameters on what the trigger is and see if I could get it to run out. I took a lot of dunkings." He shivered a little.

Molly frowned a little and reached out to touch his forehead. "I hope you didn't make yourself sick. Getting that much w--" she briefly looked up at the ceiling. "Getting soaked that much can't be good for you."

Blair blushed and smiled a little. "Nah, I'm good. I come from hearty stock...plus I'm carrying around lots of towels!"

Molly grinned and dropped her hand. "Okay. What did your experimenting tell you?"

Blair bounced and yanked out a soggy notebook. "First off, whatever it is knows the trigger word in several languages. Secondly, it doesn't seem to be exhaustable. And..." He leaned closer. "It knows if you're using an umbrella and it waits till you've moved it before soaking you."

"I've got my theories as to who's behind it."

Blair leaned in even closer. "Think about it. Who would want us to not mention something healthy and free for drinking? Who would want us to instead ask for soda? Or coffee?"

"The Man, that's who."

Pippi managed to get her boat up the river in 20 days, but she was still fired.

Stupid King.

Blair's here for extra study time, he's soggy...but he's here.

"Yeah, I'm okay. I was experimenting this morning to try and find out what's behind this water-"

*sploosh*

"-dumping from the ceiling." Blair opened his bag and took a towel out of a ziploc bag, and started wiping down the floor. "The experiment was unsuccesful. Cold and wet is my world, man."
