How to Be A Chocobro; Friday, First Period [10/22].

The problem with not really knowing exactly what your class was supposed to be about was that it sometimes made it difficult to know what you were really going to be teaching on a week-to-week basis. But therein was the benefit of a class like this, because it became pretty clear to all three of the teachers from the onset that this meant they could just do whatever they wanted in this class.

As long as, if it involved the Danger Shop, it also involved chocobos.

Of course, that also meant that, even if you didn't need the Danger Shop, you are still going to use it anyway, because that meant, whatever you were doing, you were doing it with chocobos. And who wouldn't want that?

Gladio had floated an idea to them that they'd decided might be a better fit for next week, so, this week, hopefully you weren't all sick of autumnal scenery from the Boston trip, because you were getting it again with a whole fall festival vibe with pumpkins.

Lots and lots of pumpkins.

And chocobos!

"Hey, guys!" Prompto got the class started out once every was there, grinning because there was a chocobo nuzzling up against him for feather ruffles while he talked. "So, Gladio here has been reading a lot about this Halloween holiday that's coming up here, and while there's a lot of sort of spooky, scary stuff involved, there's also a lot of more fun stuff, like candy and costumes and really great food, aaaand...."

Gladio let him hang there a little bit on that dramatic pause before picking up one of the pumpkins and holding it up in his hand. "Pumpkins," he said. "Specifically, these things called Jack-o-lanterns, which has a really interesting history behind it. Basically, it's a tradition where people carve things, usually faces, into pumpkins, which they've hollowed out, and they put a candle inside of it to make it glow, like a lantern. Turnips were also pretty popular, but the pumpkin sort of took off as the classic base for a jack-o-latern, probably because its size gave you a lot more room to get creative. Back then, Halloween was something called Samhain, where it was said that the souls of the dead and supernatural beings would walk the Earth, and the jack-o-lanterns were used to ward off those evil spirits, keep them out of your home, and general frighten other people away.

"Considering that the world where we come from also has a problem with supernatural monsters that are driven away by the light," he continued, now a bit dryly, "this one sort of stuck out for me."

"And while we certainly hope that we will not need to turn to our jack-o-lanterns for their intended use," Ignis added in coolly, "we thought it would be a nice, topical activity to pursue this week. And hopefully, you too may have learned something interesting about Halloween because of it. Please note, while we are in the Danger Shop, the pumpkins we've provided are very real, so you may take your lanterns with you after class."

"We just wanted to do it in here," Prompto informed them with a shameless grin, "because why wouldn't you want to make jack-o-lanterns with chocobos?"

He knew he sure did!

And not just because jack-o-lanterns where actually kind of scary if you thought about the reasons for them (which were all too real for anyone from Eos!) and so having an adorable giant bird around to distract you was nice!

"So, without further ado," said Ignis, "come and pick out a pumpkin or two, grab a carving kit, and let your imagination run wild. There's plenty of time to do several if you'd like, and for those of you who might not know where to start, we do have some carving patterns you can use if that makes it easier for you. Any questions?"

Kiem would agree that everything was better with chocobos, and carving pumpkins turned out to be fun, even if the pumpkin ended up mostly being a huge mouth with tiny jagged teeth. At least there was plenty of room for lights.

|I totally did not type chocobros first, honest. ;)]

Ignis personally thought his flame-inspired carving was a rather cheeky touch for the nature of the activity, though he seemed completely unaware of any additional layers to his choice that may exist.

Was the particularly menacing and toothy grin on Gladio's jack-o-lantern being done specifically so that he might freak Prompto out with it later? Probably a lot?

If it was, Gladio definitely wasn't going to outwardly admit it.
