A Traveler's Guide to Hyrule; Thursday, First Period [10/07].
"Good morning, everyone!" Sidon greeted the class with his usual cheer, a toothy grin of excitement for the lesson ahead of them. "I hope you are all doing well, and that you are looking forward to the school trip next week! I know I am! I'll certainly never complain about a visit to a place by the ocean!"
He was going to confuse so many local fishermen next week. It was practically tradition!
"But before we set our minds too firmly into vacation time, we still have a lesson ahead of us, continuing on our exploration of the various types of people found around Hyrule, and today, we'll be learning all about the Sheikah tribe!
"The Sheikah," Sidon continued happily, after sketching out what was an actually....decent approximation of the Sheikah eye on the board. Sure, it looked like it was drawn by a five year old, but his skills were clearly improving! "are another of the more human-like races of Hyrule, known for their incredible technology, their speed and grace, especially with martial arts, their lustrious white hair, and their long lives....a mere fraction of the lifespan of a Zora, mind you, but many Sheikah live well past their hundreth year, which, for most Hylian species, is really quite remarkable! They are also deeply spiritual, dealing often with various kind of magic and communing with the gods, handlers of ancient prophesies and deep introspection! They also tend to clad themselves similarly, in tones of beige, red, and navy, but their costumes are not merely just stylish and a mark of their tribe, they are also said to have unique properties of being waterproof and resistant to lightning! Traits any Zora can truly appreciate!
"They make their home in the quiet, serene, and somewhat secretive Karariko Village, nestled in the mountains rising up from the Lanayru Wetlands. One might need a keen eye and trustful heart to find their little hidden haven, but it is a visit they will not regret having! However, their seclusion, while key in keeping them protected from the scourage of Calamity Ganon nearly one hundred years ago, is not necessarily by choice, you see, because, though their advanced technology has lead the way in keeping Hyrule safe and protected, it has often been met with suspicion and fear by others, and some see it as a threat. Because of this, the art of their ancestors technology rather faded throughout the centuries, though they can still perform remarkable feats with it and develop it to the best of their ability. Perhaps not quite as strongly as the Sheikah of old, especially when one considered that the ancient Sheikah Guardians and Divine Beasts were able to be turned against us in the fight against Calamity Ganon, but they can still do marvelous things.
"This fear and concern regarding Sheikah technology and the Calamity also caused a division among the Sheikah themselves, many of them branching off, actually in support of Calamity Ganon, if you can believe it! Not much is known about the Yiga Clan, only that they have their hideout somewhere north of the Gerudo Desert in the Gerudo Highlands, and they delight in being agents of chaos to stir up trouble for people in the name of the Calamity, hoping that one day, his destruction would be eminent! They are said to be theives and asssassins, and so one best watch out for such brigands when traveling! Also, I am not sure how valid these rumors may be, but there is talk that they have an odd fondness for bananas, so, I suppose, should you find yourself exploring the Gerudo Highlands, a few yellow fruits might not be a terrible thing to have on hand!
"Speaking of rumors," Sidon chuckled a little, "there's also rumors of an ancient Great Fairy Spring nearby Karariko Village. Not much is known about the legendary Great Fairies, but, if you ask me, that just sounds like even more of an excellent reason to explore and find out more for yourselves, should you ever deign to visit the area!
"So that," Sidon concluded proudly, "is the rundown of the Sheikah Tribe and a brief look into their history and their troubles. If you ask me, their position in the greater population of Hyrule is a rather intriguing one, isn't it? To possess the power and technology to save the world, only to have that technology then feared by others, and shunned, to the point of exile!, because of it! And then, once that technology is needed once more, to have to turn against you and threaten the world to ruin! And what of the Yiga Clan? What might drive a person to choose to side with the Darkness, instead of the Light? Are they misguided, or do they simply see things differently? I would be delighted to hear your thoughts, should you have any, and, of course, to answer any other questions you may have regarding the Sheikah and their history and place in Hyrule!"
