How to Be A Chocobro; Friday, First Period [09/24].

The Chocobros had a prince and a little sister to go meet later, but first? They had a class to conduct! A class that none of them really knew what they were goingn to do with, as was probably going to be evident in today's class. Which was being held in the Danger Shop again, which meant, of course, they were surrounded by an influx of chocobos, despite Prompto's earlier, chocobo-free victory yesterday.

There was also a blank wall behind them, with a door in it, and that was all, just sitting there with all sorts of mystery and potential.

Gladio clapped his big hands together to grab everyone's attention.

"Alright!" he said. "I know this weekend, some of us have some visitors coming, so you might be a little distracted, so we're going to do something a little different today. Good training in preparing for the unexpected! Behind this door, we've each set up a few challenges for you. The rules are simple: get in there, complete the challenge, move onto the next one, and we'll see who comes out on top. Pretty simple, right? You can go ahead and ask questions before you go in, but I can't guarantee you'll get answers. So...without further ado..."

He nodded, and Ignis went ahead and opened the door, with a welcoming gesture toward it.

"Best of luck in there," he offered, which surely was very reassuring and confidence-instilling, right?

Well, the instructions. Listen to the very simple instructions, try to ask questions if you got them, or raise any other thoughts or concerns before the challenges begin!

Kiem still wasn't sure what this class was about, but it seemed like neither did the teachers, and so fe felt ok about referring to it as bird class.

He was a bit distracted thinking about the possibility that his mother might decide to make a surprise visit. It would be terrible. She might decide he had to leave, especially if she talked to his Art of War teacher.

Through the first door, the students will find themselves in a barracks-like room, with four beds, all of them disheveled and messy.

"Your first challenge," Ignis's voice came over as if by loudspeaker, "is to make these beds, according to proper military standards. Neat sheets, nice and orderly, I'll be around to check your work, of course. Once your bed passes inspection, you may move onto the next challenge."

Kiem sucked at anything military, at least as far as he knew, so it came as no surprise that he ended up last.

In the next room, the students would find themselves suddenly in an open outdoor space, not too dissimilar to Duscae, where, of course, the chocobos are roaming freely, but, more importantly, so is a cactuar.

There was also a table with some cell phones, if anyone needed one.

"Alright, guys!" Prompto's voice came in bright and excited now. "You may have noticed the little green guy running around in here. That little guy is a rare cactuar! And your challenge in this room is to get a good selfie with him in the background! He's quick, though! Not an easy task! But I think you guys can do it! So remember to smile bright and get that shot!"

It took a few attempts, but eventually Kiem caught the cactuar on a picture, with himself grinning in front of it.

Sadly it didn't seem that sociable.

The next room is quite a bit smaller, with four big boulders and a variety of very large weapons, mostly swords, but with a few hammers and maces mixed in there, on a rack just outside the door.

"Now for a real challenge!" Gladio chuckled over the speaker. "Stone smashing! Grab a weapon, and whoever can smash through their stone the fastest wins, and then onto the next one. Hope you didn't skip arm day this week, guys! Let's go!"

A hammer seemed like the best choice here, and Kiem carried on beating at the stone with surprising persistence. When it crumbed he looked almost surprised.

And maybe that would be the last of it? A challenge each? Nope! There's still more, although after the rock smashing, the students will find themselves in a room with four tables, each of which has a jacket, some buttons, needle and thread.

"One mustn't allow a lack of skills to leave them disheveled when one doesn't have to be," said Ignis. "Before you all, you'll see a station with a jacket in disrepair, having lost one of its buttons. Sew the button back onto the jacket in a passable fashion, and you may proceed to the next challenge."

What do you mean, these challenges were tailored specifically to the personalities of the people presenting them?

Um. Sewing?

Somehow, don't ask Kiem how, he managed to sew that button back on, although perhaps not with as much skill as Ignis would have preferred.

Oh! Sewing!

Sakaki looked delighted when she realized what this one was going to be, and, while shecwasn't very good at making the things she sewed together look as cute as she would like, her stitching and craftwork on it was exceptional, and she had no problems sewing her button on the jacket, and, in fact, looked around to possibly help someone else if they needed it.

After the starkness of Ignis's sewing room, the next room was bright and colorful with the sounds and lights of a carnival, especially one of those carnival shooting games where you hit the target with a water pistol to move your horse (well, in this case, a chocobo, of course!) forward to race the others.

"Chocobo racing time!" Prompto sang out. "This one's pretty great, guys, all you've got to do is shoot those water guns into the targets to move your chocobo forward; whoever has the best aim'll get their chocobo to the end first, win this challenge, and move onto the next....which is your final test! So you're almost there! Ready....set....FIRE! Er, well, water in this case. Ready set WATER!"

Shooting. He sucked at shooting, even with water, and wasn't surprised when he ended up last.

"Alright, guys," Gladio was clearly way too amused with himself for this last one, "as Prompto said, this is your last challenge, so make it count!"

They would find themselves in just a simple room with a table, and on that table, awaited Cup Noodle^TM sodas.

"First one to finish one of these bad boys wins it all. I recommend the classic."

"No way!" Prompto chimed in. "Curry flavor, all the way!"

"I recommend forfeiting the whole thing entirely," mewled Ignis, "and that this classifies as cruel and unusual punishment."

"Says the guy who made them make beds," Gladio snorted. "Good luck, guys."

"You'll need it," Ignis added.

Disgusting drink?

Kiem could do that. He quickly emptied a classic, then said, with a grin:

"That was terrible."

You know, the guys who just made you drink Cup Noodle^TM sodas!

Ignis certainly hoped they'd know by now that he was firmly against this, but he was, alas, wholly outnumbered.

Making beds and sewing buttons didn't seem so bad all of a sudden, now, did it?

And at least Prompto's were fun!

Look, they were very on brand for him, and involved games and selfies, so what more could you want?

Other than more of that delicious Cup Noodle^TM soda!

Gladio was clearly having way too much fun with this class and was definitely feeling like he was getting the most out of it. This was great.

Just don't drink all the soda, guys! He wanted to save some for his parents weekend guests!
