Political Campaigning (Thursday, April 13, 4th period)
Josh was in the classroom covered almost completely in a yellow rain slicker.
He wasn't taking any chances today.
"All right. Let's talk more about phonebanks and door-to-door volunteers. Let's say you magically have, I don't know, all of the volunteers you'd need and then some." He raised an eyebrow. "Which never happens, so don't get too excited. What do you have them do?"
He spread his hands out. "The question is more what don't you get them to do. They can send out mailers and organize walk routes and print out phone scripts and call people to come to rallies and knock on doors. The little old lady brigade will come out in force during the day--get them to cross-check phone numbers and call their little old lady friends. They'll be able to tell you who on the voter list is no longer among the living--with the accompanying story about the funeral and the fight over the will, so, um, get comfortable or set up a system for someone to come save you."
"In terms of making sure that you're on board with the rest of the campaign--if the message you're distributing to the voters doesn't match the campaign strategy and theme, you're wasting serious time and effort. What you say at the door and over the phone should be the same thing that is in the mailings, in the candidate's speeches, in the fundraising pitches and on the TV ads. It takes five repetitions of an idea for it to even register with voters, so saturation is key. Find a few key points and stick with them."
He sat down. "Okay. Think of other things you can do with your volunteers--and remember, you're not paying them, so you can't be too evil or you'll just drive away your free labor."

He blinked. "Pretty sure I shouldn't be telling you this."

There are many phrases that Josh should not say. "Booty call" is definitely one of them.
