"Sorry about last week," Kitty said once everyone had gotten to the Home Ec room. "Fandom decided to make me a lion and that makes it hard to send a cancelation enail.

"So since we're back at school and halfway through September already, we're doing some fall flavors today. I have some recipes for you to pick and try. If you've never made cupcakes before, I vaguely know how without instructions so we'll be on the same footing, but I'll do my best."

Clare was familiar with apple cake but the others were wildly American to her. Or maybe Canadian, given the maple syrup?

Clare was absolutely going to overthink that and accidentally combine the two recipes, making a maple-pumpkin cupcake that was not absolutely foul? It wasn't going win any awards on a baking show, mind, but it was definitely edible.
