The History of the Zora; Monday, Fourth Period [08/09].
There was another drawing on the board again that week, a sketch that wasn't very good by any stretch of the imagination, but one that Sidon was clearly still very proud of, and, really, you could at least tell that it was some sort of elephant-shaped mechanical creature, its trunk lifted to spout a fountain of water into the air. Honestly, that recognition alone made it one of Sidon's finest drawings yet! Could you really blame him for being so proud?
"Hello, again, my eager Zora Historians!" he greeted with the same excitement and energy that one could come to expect from him on any given day, although if anyone were to notice a small thread of uncharacteristic restraint in his disposition, they would not be wrong. "Today, we are talking about a very important part of modern Zora history, which is actually a part of ancient Hylian technology, that ties into events that are still affecting my world in the present time. It is impossible to venture into Zora's Domain without feeling her considerable and formitable presence, as well as the weight of what she represents, and that, my friends, is none other than the Divine Beast Vah Ruta!"
"Now," Sidon started, his eyes still shining but his smile gone a little wan, "one thing we have not talked about much in this class yet, as we have been focusing specifically on the Zora and not so much Hyrule as a whole....is the Great Calamity. You see, a little less than a hundred years ago...not much time at all for a Zora like myself, but a vast amount of time for most Hylians and I imagine yourselves, as well!...the Great Calamity was awoken, and Calamity Ganon, a terrifying monster of astounding power from ages long, long ago, sought to wreak havoc on the world of Hyrule and destroy her, just as he had 10,000 years ago. Legend has it that when he first appeared in that time immemorial, which seems even a long time even for us Zora, Hyrule was saved when the princess of prophecy and her hero sealed the Calamity away, once and for all, with the help of the technology of the Seikah people, especially with the aid of the four Divine Beasts, great, massive structures of brilliant mechanics and strength to fight off the scourge plaguing the land and seeking to cause it ruin.
"Knowing the incredible power of these Divine Beasts, though, the King of Hyrule at the time feared them greatly, so, once they had served their purpose, he buried them, deep below Hyrule, as they marched forth into peace and prosperity with the threat now summarily vanquished!
"But this, alas!, was not the last Hyrule would hear of the Great Calamity Ganon, for, as I mentioned, not even one hundred years ago, the Calamity had returned, to finish what he had started so very long ago! Guided by the legends of such powerful creations, a concentrated effort was put forth to unearth the Divine Beasts, and to call upon the people of Hyrule to raise up a Champion to pilot these weapons to aid in the fight once more against this persistent evil.
"Sadly," and the drop in his voice and the softening of his smile to a bittersweet sort of tenderness emphasised this far more than even Sidon's usual aplomb ever could, "the efforts against Calamity Ganon this time around were not so successful. The Champions, though they were all strong and brave and exceptionally chosen, could not defeat the scourge, though they gave the fight their very all! And even though they could not destroy him as intended, they weakened him enough so that the princess could still manage to seal some of the Darkness from the land, and though the threat hangs over our head constantly that the seal may be broken, it is said that she is still holding the Calamity at bay to this very day."
Here, Sidon paused, for quite a long, long moment, before he shook his head slightly and found his smile again.
"One of those Divine Beasts," he continued, blinking away anything that might have caused those yellow eyes of his to shimmer slightly more than usual, and he gestured toward his drawning on the board, "was the Divine Beast of the Zora people. We named her Vah Ruta, after an ancient Zora princess, an attendant to the gods, known to be bright and lively and brave. She became a Sage in the protection of Hyrule, and through the Divine Beasts intended to carry on that protection, we honor her. And the Divine Beast Vah Ruta still stands strong over Zora's Domain, almost as if waiting, for the next time her services may be needed, for when another brave and determined Champion, like the ones who piloted her before, must step forward and do what must be done to save Zora's Domain...and all of Hyrule....from ruin and destruction."
With that, as he finished his tale, Sidon was quiet once more. Of course he knew that this topic, important as it was for the class, was going to be a little difficult to get through, but he certainyl didn't want the heavy feelings that pressed into his chest spoil anyone's day with meloncholy. So he finished with another smile, his expression going hopeful and encouraging.
"So!" he said, opening his arms and opening the floor to the discussion. "Any questions about Vah Ruta? Or perhaps any of the other Divine Beasts? Do you think you would have the bravery to pilot such a powerful creature against such a formitable foe? Let us hear what you think!"

Even if it wasn't really what Vah Ruta looked like, she still felt Sidon would appreciate it.
