It's completely IC and treated as such - and if someone actually says something that isn't a shippy X/B comment, Rita will be asking them to back up their character's opinion. And if things seem to be heading in a mean-spirited direction from the students, there'll be interference, absolutely. The way this is handled - the level/harshness of criticism - is completely up to the students.
