Exploring Earth Cuisine, Monday 5th period
"Welcome back," Hannibal greeted them. "I'm pleased to see you all again. Today we will be journeying to South America - we are currently in North America, so as you can imagine, this involves going south significantly.
"Brazil, as the US, is a country of immigrants mixed with the native residents. Predominantly those immigrants were from Portugal, Spain, and Italy in southwest Europe. There are different cuisines in different areas, depending upon its history and geography; we will be experiencing southern Brazilian food."
He waved them through to a city street where the weather was lovely and the city was...well, a nice area in a big city. The restaurant had a concrete front with large windows and was nicely appointed.
"Fogo de Chão is one of the restaurants that grew out of churrasco, the local equivalent of barbeque. You will find a lavish bar of side foods, which are quite enough to satisfy those of you who may not be interested in meat. There are also a fine selection of desserts."
He spoke to the host, who led them to a table. "However, the main attraction is the meat, or rather meats, which they will bring to you." He nodded toward one of the gaucho-dressed staff walking from table to table with a large skewer of meat. "There are a number of different meats with different spices, and I encourage you to try as many as you like. The local language is predominantly Portuguese, but many will also speak Spanish and some will know English, so we should be fine. I also plan on ordering wine, for those of you who would care to join me."

...but she decided she'd best get a few different ones, just to make sure.

But for the time being, he was rather stymied by the paradox of choice, in that most of the menu looked incredibly intriguing, though he supposed he would try to focus in on what he felt would give him the best representation of Brazilian flavors, making a plethora of mental notes for things to try in the kitchen later in replicating some of the others for himself.
In a mere glance at the menu, he had already come up with several new recipehs...

And, as tempting as it was to order something called a 'Seafood Tower,' she was ultimately going to pass on this particular instance.
Re: Eat and talk!
Clare did spare a moment to feel guilty about the starving children in Ethiopia and China and whatall before doing her very best to eat everything that was offered as it came by.

Apologies to the multitudinous cuisines of Brazil that are more interesting than meat on sticks, but this was on my mind. :)
