So You Want to Be a Hero. [Friday, Period 5]
Everyone enrolled in the class would have been notified to meet at the Danger Shop, and when they arrived, they'd find an empty space and Yang.
Yang very visibly not wearing her arm, in a tank-top so everyone could see the cap of metal just below her shoulder, and the scars peeking out from it.
"Fandom encourages heroics," she said, once the last person had arrived. "That doesn't mean you're actually equipped to be a hero, or adventurer, or assassin or bounty hunter, or anything along those lines when you graduate."
"I know, some of you are probably rolling your eyes thinking 'I have a superpower, she doesn't know what she's talking about. That's what I did, when I was a student here. But guess what?" Yang waved the stub of her missing arm at them. "My superpower? Is essentially invincibility. And I still lost, and lost bad."
"I can't tell you not to go and be stupid." Yang, you probably weren't supposed to tell the kids their dreams are stupid. "What I can do, is teach you not to rely on whatever precious power you think makes you special. Because there's always someone out there who can counter it, and take you down."
"This class will use power inhibitors going forward. No excuses of 'but my power doesn't turn off,' because neither does mine, and it didn't save me. Except for Sidon," she said, looking at him if he was there, "-- because I can't somehow make him shorter."
Great. Another friend who now was seeing her broken. This idea was going fantastic so far.
"But today, we're just gonna do introductions, and get you fitted for your inhibitors. Then you'll be free to go."

During the Lecture
Introductions!
"My superpower is that my soul forms an armor around me, absorbing the hits I take and converting it into energy. You hit me with something, I hit you back twice as hard. I can also output that energy into bullets, fire, punches...or just store it up for one really devastating attack. My power is on, all the time, resulting in my having super-strength as a constantly absorb and redirect everything; the wind hitting me, a punch on the arm, even something as small as the sun damaging my skin cells, slowly giving me a tan or sunburn. It all powers me."
"So I thought I was meant to be a hero." Yang shrugged. "Instead, I almost died."
"So you. Next," she said, pointing at a random student. "Who are you, and why do you think you want to be a hero or adventurer or whatever."
Re: Introductions!
And not completely useless to Breq.
Re: Introductions!
"I'm not looking to be a hero, but I'll take any tips I can on staying alive."
Re: Introductions!
Get Fitted!
"Go grab an inhibitor from the table over there," she said. "Find one that fits well, then start using your power -- if you have one -- on the dummies. The tech will eventually figure out how to negate your abilities, be it a way to turn them off, or creating an opponent who's essentially immune to you."
"Have fun, go wild, watch out for your classmates."
Re: Get Fitted!
With Amaya's class and now this she would probably be a bit sore tomorrow.
Re: Get Fitted!
She still was really, really not looking forward to this. And the first thing she did after putting it on, was make sure it came off.
