Fandom Gladiators; Thursday, Fourth Period [05/13].

Rosa would never admit it outloud, but it honestly felt good to be back in the old ridiculously stupid Fandom Gladiators mod here in the Danger Shop again. Although, really, since this class was never anything more than a way to entertain herself by having people do ridiculous things and hit each other with giant Q-tips, it really wouldn't be that terrible of a thing to admit.

"Well, everyone," she started, "congratulations on being in the coolest class available in the summer, Fandom Gladiators, where weekly, you'll be put to the test in a series of physical challenges to see who comes out on top...or at least sucks less than the others. My name is...not important, because when we're in the arena, we will only be known by our gladiator names. Mine is Exterminator. I have lived up to that name through many, many Fandom Gladiator classes in the past. So, you're all going to pick your own gladiator name...or get assigned one by me, which you do not want. You want something cool and intimidating, like Hawk or Nitro or Storm. Bonus points if you put together a backstory or gimmick, but choose wisely, because one you pick your gladiator name, you're going to be stuck with it.

"Then? We're going to suit up," she gestured toward the collection of foam pads and helmets, "because even though this is the Danger Shop so no one will really get hurt, it's part of the traditional Gladiator uniform. And if you were an idiot and didn't wear clothes you can move easily in, don't worry. We have you covered with some clearly very flattering gym uniforms.

"And once that's out of the way," Rosa finished, "get ready, because we're doing Human Cannonball. Not as cool as it sounds, but you still get to run into people, so still pretty cool. I'll explain more when we're finished suiting up and naming ourselves. You." She quirked her chin up at the quintessential nearest random person. "You go first."

There really isn't much of one, but there's plenty of time for you to ask questions and/or wonder what the hell you've gotten yourself into. Or be excited about it. Rosa doesn't know. You're all weird, anyway.

Don't, like, take forever with it or anything, it's not a big deal. Obviously, not a whole lot of thought went into Malibu or Gemini or Zap.

But give Rosa your new Gladiator name, and talk about why you picked it. If you have to. And that's who you are for the rest of the semester, so don't make it lame.

"The HAMMER," said Amaya, with way too much enthusiasm than someone who had been through this class as much as she had been should have, really, "is back to defend her well-won titles in the glorious Fandom Gladiator Arena!"

Did she put a little extra oomph in it just to annoy Rosa? Yes.

But also she was genuinely just that thrilled and excited for this, too.

She was a simple woman, really.

Miles had elected to wear his Spider-Man uniform today. So as not to incur Rosa's wrath, he simply pulled the costume over his current costume which looked ridiculous.

"Uh. I'm Spider-Man," Miles said realizing that probably sounded lame to Rosa, especially since she was with Miguel. "But, uh, you can call me THE SPIDER!"

Yes, he posed like a wrestler and immediately felt ridiculous.

Good. He should feel ridiculous.

"I'm pretty sure Spider-Boy would be more accurate, anyway," said Rosa, because she believed firmly in being an encouraging voice in these kids' lives. Listen, he had some pretty ~~tight~~ big spider-pants to fill, he needed a thick spider-skin, right?

"But, sure, let's go with the Spider for the sake of brevity."

"You can call me Hellion," Illyana decided. 'Sorcerer' was a mouthful, 'Witch' was taken with Wanda here, and she didn't really like 'Demon.' ~~And didn't know there was a supervillian team named 'The Hellions' in her future~~.

"Hellion," Rosa repeated it as if trying it out, then gave an approving nod. "Good choice. I'm looking forward to seeing if you do it justice."

"At the very least, I'll look the part," Illyana promised. She shook her head, and when the cloud of flying blonde hair settled, her horns were showing.

"Can I customize my helmet?"

"I mean," Rosa reasoned, with a shrug of her shoulder, "it looks like you kind of have to."

"Um," Malia said. Looking around and feeling put on the spot. "I'm . . . Coyote? Because . . . I'm a werecoyote."

Look. No one had ever accused her of being creative.

Well. A werecoyote was definitely new, Rosa had to give her that.

There was a quirk of a brow, and a shrug. "Sure," she said. "That works."

It she was allowing the Spider, at least Coyote was somewhat cooler, just don't tell her boyfriend she thought that.

"Good." Malia nodded. ". . . Sorry in advance if I accidentally rip holes in anything."

She did not have anything resembling full control over her claws yet.

Rosa shrugged again. "It happens."

She lived with a dog and a dude with talons. You kind of got used to some things.

"It's the danger shop and not on my dime, anyway."

Steve...kind of made that stupid gym uniform work for him. It was his special power. "You can call me Cap," he said, grinning. "It worked last year."

He really, really did, and Rosa kind of hated him for it, but also was absolutely not going to complain.

It was a thing.

"It did," she agreed. "Cap it is."

It was a terrible, terrible uniform but everyone had to wear the same and her blue shirt didn't look nearly as awful with it as Miles'... everything...

She felt bad even thinking that, sorry Miles, but it was true.

Elli looked sort of horrified at having to come up with a name for herself but Amaya worked at the forge and was The Hammer and...

"Needle?" she offered, already braced for it to be rejected. "I'm a nurse in training?"

Rosa quirked an eyebrow. "I mean," she said, "if that's the case, you could go probably go with something cooler, like Scapel or Bone Saw," because so many people used those at the clinic, Rosa, "but it's your name, if that's what you want to go with."

Rosa Diaz. Perfect model of how to instil the best sense of confidence in your students!

Elli was about as threatening as toast, Rosa. Needle was already pretty threatening for her.

"Nebulizer?" she tried. "Gauze?"

"Nebulizer sounds cool," Rosa decided. "We'll go with that."

So much for going with what Elli wanted to go with!

The saddest part of this all was that Elli just looked openly relieved to have the whole name business settled.

"Thank you," she said sincerely.

"I'm The Beast," Arabella declared.

Of Cologne, technically, but no one here needed to know that.

And now that everyone hopefully had a name that didn't suck, the Arena was ready to shift into Game Mode by having a few platforms rise up out of the cushioned pit below.

"Alright, cool. So....here's how this works: each of you are going to take a turn on that raised platform there. Take one of the cushioned shields to help you out. And then your fellow gladiators are going to swing from the rope from the higher platform over there, and try to knock you off. Cannonballs, you just get one chance to swing and hit and knock the gladiator off the platform. Gladiators, once you're off, you're off. Whoever manages to stay on their platform the longest gets an advantage next week, as does the person who gets the most knock-offs. ~~Whatever Miles's name ends up being~~, you're up first."

And your lovely RNG'd rounds will go as such, feel free to play them in order, out of order, construct elaborate reasons and/or glitches to justify the all-powerful RNG results, etc etc etc:

Miles: Elli goes first...and knocks Miles off!
Illyana: Arabella goes first...and knocks Illyana off!
Elli: Steve goes first and MISSES, followed by Illyana who knocks Elli off!
Steve: Amaya goes first...and knocks Steve off!
Arabella: Miles goes first and MISSES, followed by Amaya who also MISSES, then Malia who knocks Arabella off!
Malia: Elli goes first...and knocks Malia off!
Amaya: Malia goes first...and knocks Amaya off!

Gladiators on the platform, ping in and get ready! Cannonballs, play it out however from there with respect to the all-knowing, all-saying RNG!

Arabella gets the win for staying on the platform the longest; Elli and Malia tie for the most successful cannonballing.

"Literally nothing about this resembles cannonballs."

Thanks, Malia. Because definitely no one else noticed that.

"I'm so, so sorry in advance," she said because, of course, this was a game but it also seemed rather dangerous and--

Look, she was just very sorry.

Excuse me. Talk to the Exterminator.
