Photography; Thursday, Second Period [05/13].
Prompto was really hoping he wouldn't end up being nervous for this thing, that he would have build up enough confidence and reassurance throughout the week to be ready for it, especially since it was a small class, especially since it was something fun and light and stuff, but...he was wrong. He was so wrong. But! At least he had a lot of experience of working through his nerves and trying not to show it, so at the very least, maybe the class wouldn't be a complete disaster and might actually go okay.
That was his main goal, really. Non-disaster.
That should be obtainable, right?
So he grinned from where he was sitting on the top of the desk at the front of the classroom, doing an excellent job of not kicking his feet or bouncing his leg too much, and then popped up off the desk onto his feet when he got started.
"Hey, everyone," he said, "and, uh, welcome to Photography! It's pretty much what you see on the package, this is just going to be a course about taking pictures, learning about techniques and different cameras, what makes a good shot, things like that. My name's Prompto, I know some of you, I used to go to school here. I'm not, like, a professional or anything, I'm just sort of a photography hobbyist, but if my career path hadn't lead me in a way different direction, this is definitely something I would be pursuing instead.
"So, since this is the first week and all and it's," he laughed a little, rolling his eyes as if to dismiss what he knew was a lame joke they'd probably heard a million times if they had a lot of other classes by now, "tradition and everything, I thought we could get to know each other a little in this class, but we're going to do it through photography. Kind of like a picture-taking ice-breaker thing, you know? But first, we'll need...." He gestured toward the cases on the desk. "Cameras!
"Now, if you already have a camera," he reached for his own on the other side of the desk, holding it up to show them, "that's totally cool, too, but these are here for if you don't or the one you have isn't really the best. These are pretty high quality and what I like best about them for this class is they they have a digital card in them that will make sharing our photos in class super easy! But we're also going to do some stuff with traditional film and things, too, and even cell phones! But these'll be great for you to practice your photo skills in your free time and things like that. They are on loan from the school, though, so at the end of the session, they have to go back, but it might give you an idea of what kind of camera you'd like for yourself.
"So," he started to hand out the cameras, "let me just go over real quick how they work," and he did precisely that, before moving on.
"Now," he then continued, "what I was thinking we could do today is take pictures of each other and use that as a good way to get to know each other and just feel more comfortable working with each other and stuff, especially if, you know, you might be a little shy about having your picture taken or taking pictures of other people in the class--myself included! So, go around, snap a few pictures, work on your poses, ask each other about yourselves, and toward the end of the class, pick your favorite photo and maybe a little information about the person to share with the class, and we'll all be, like, best friends by the end of it, right?" He chuckled a little...which probably didn't help with feeling like a complete dork right now, but oh well! "Okay, so, go ahead and find someone to start with, take some pictures, and let's get to know each other!
"Oh!" he then added quickly. "Real quick, before we get too started, next week! I have an assignment for you, but it'll be a fun one! I'd like everyone to come in with three photos of some of your favorite places around the island, and we're going to use that a springboard for the topic next week, okay? Cool. Alright. Back to the meetings!"

He knew who that was!
"Where did you guys go on vacay?"

It didn't matter, anyway, for the purposes of the exercise.
"Cool," Prompto grinned as he nodded and held up his camera. "That's perfect. So, then. How about you give me your best 'vacationing with T. Swift at Martha's vineyard even though it's a little chilly pose."
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
She posed, smiling and still managing to look slightly freezing at the same time.

"Brrrr," he shivered a little. "You even convinced me it was cold in here! Okay, so that's one picture down...let's see. So, where are you from?"

"Well, there are so many hidden gems just waiting to be discovered," Tahani said.
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
She was possibly holding it like it was going to bite her and trying to reread her notes on the whole... everything... about it with a hint of dismay on her face.
But she definitely had a camera!
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
"Hey, did you need another run-through on how to use it?" he offered, with a tilt of his head, hoping it was something as simple as that and not something, like, her mother's soul had once been eaten by a camera or something and now she was going to be all sad and this class was going to be super awkward.
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
for nowand given how little her home had of fancy tech..."Please," she said, flushing a little because that sounded a little desperate.
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
He demonstrated with his own camera, pointing out and going over all the
oh so handwavey because lol nodetails he'd gone over a little earlier with his introduction to the class."Make sense?" he asked, when he finished. "Here." He slid his chair back a little. "Take a shot of me right now to give it a try."
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
So she nodded, still not looking particularly confident but, well, she was willing to give it a go. Practice made perfect, right?
And well...
"Okay, here goes!"
Congratulations, Prompto, you were now an incredibly blurry, off-center picture, and that was, indeed, part of her fingers in the picture even though she could have sworn her fingers hadn't been there when she'd taken the shot.
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
"Okay, let's see how it turned out," Prompto said, pulling his chair back in close as he leaned into see. "Alright, not bad for a first time! Looks like all you've got to do is watch how you're holding it, here, see? That blur there is probably your finger over the lens, it really helps if you hold the camera like this," he picked up his and held it up so that she could see, "and then use just this finger to press the button, see? And then make sure you hold it nice and steady, and try to get the subject in the center. Let's see your grip real quick, and then you can try again."
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
Listening intently to his instructions Elli tried to get her grip the way he was holding his. It... it was better? But not there yet.
"Like this? We only have one phone in town at home," she confessed, feeling the need to explain her incompetence. "And the Mayor has the only camera and it's on a stand?"
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
"That's good," Prompto said, in reference to the grip, but he still suggested a few adjustments, lifting a finger to point out what he meant and hopefully guide her a little bit. "And really? One camera and phone for the whole town?"
He chuckled a little, giving her an encouraging grin. "Just wait until you get back, then, you can wow everyone with your photography skills and you'll get to take all the pictures."
Maybe?
How did it work when someone wanted to take pictures, in that case?
Re: Get to know each other! - Photography, 05/13.
She laughed softly.
"It's just what we're used to," she said, making the adjustments until she was aaaaalmost right there. "I think I've got it!"
