"So this last weekend," Summer started the class by just getting right into it this time around, "was a classic example of those moments when we're on the receiving end of some weird shit coming out of portals rather than the other way around. In case you were living under a rock or were completely unaffected by it and and didn't quite pick up on why there were a bunch of kids running around, every once in a while, usually after prom or usually after a sex pollen week, and sometimes the planets align like this year where it's after both, portals pop up all around the multiverse into various future timelines, our potential future children from those timelines jump in because kids do that, and they wind up here. Hilarity, trauma, exestential crises ensue.

"Now, my first thought after a weekend like that for a class like this," she continued, "was some sort of Reverse Uno card when I can set shit up to traumatize our own parents in their past in our current forms, but there's a few issues with that idea. One, I really try not to fuck with time travel stuff, because that stufff will pretty much make your brain bleed out of your ears if you think about it too much. Two, this is my first time teaching this class, that might be a little above my paygrade. And three, it took me all of three seconds to remember that I don't want to deal with my parents when they were younger and dumber and I definitely don't know any of your all situations, so that's just a big can of worms that no one needs to open for what is essentially an excuse for field trips class."

But she did actually try to make it helpful and useful!

"So we'll chalk it up as Credit for Experience; write me an essay or something if you got the chance to experience some alternate dimension children this weekend, and if you didn't, write about why that's a good thing or why you maybe wish you had or something. Due next week for our last class, and, in the meantime, we're going to a giant space arcade."

Because when you got right down to it, Summer didn't actually want to think too much about the implications inherent in a weekend like this last one.

And she also couldn't have a portal class without at least one trip to Blips and Chitz.

Blips and Chitz is an incredibly popular chain of adult-focused video game arcades throughout Summer's galaxy, featuring a wide variety of state of the art games and attractions, overpriced bar food, and alcohol. Sorry, kids, Summer's already talked to the bartenders (this was a class! If you're real torn up about it, she promises she'll give you a discount if you swing by Caritas tomorrow night!), but she had footed the bill to give everyone a playing card with a butt load of credits on it to spend at will. Hey, maybe you'll even earn enough prize tickets to get yourself a Vindicators pencil topper or a Two Brothers bouncy ball!

Of course, the crowd favorite is still Roy: A Life Well Lived, a reality simulator where you play as Roy and guide him through his day-to-day, but the latest upgrade in the sequel Roy 2: Dave is getting some attention, too.

You might want to avoid the far inferior copycat Troy, where everything is cardboard.

Please feel free to mod whatever sort of weird space consoles or meta-games you'd like, but good luck getting the skinny teenagers and the one surprisingly agile space blob off the Dance Dance Evolution! machines.

Belle hadn't ever played video games. The closest thing was probably the vending machines in Japan.

So, of course, she had no idea where to start. Maybe that machine over there with the dragon on it?

She's mostly just keeping an eye on everyone, but you know she has to sneak in a few rounds at Asteroid Shooter 5000 and, when push comes to shove, Big Buck Hunter, only it's with alien deer that have two heads and their antlers shoot lasers.

Sometime near the very end of the class period, a text from Annie came through.

✨🌟GUESS WHAT🌟✨

Followed swiftly by a screenshot of an email with a Vought letterhead, reading, Dear Ms. STARLIGHT, it is our pleasure to extend before it was cut off.

There was a gasp of realization in between the initial text and the screenshot that confirmed it, followed by a squeal that made Summer glad she was in a space arcade when this hit, because if anyone noticed, it wasn't all that out of place.

Sat might be better? In theory she could get herself packed and ready by then and just spend the weekend celebrating. Plus, give people more notice?and no ofc I was barely thinking about it last week but I'm REAL GLAD they answered now that that's over/twins are gone.
