Culinary Fundamentals; Friday, First Period [04/02].

The only thing that had actually kept Ignis from getting in touch with Summer to substitute for his class today so that he could go back and check in on Noctis was a message from Gladio reassuring him that everything was fine. Whatever it was that Noctis had been trying to make had turned out to be completely inedible, of course, but it was fine because they got take out and they used it for target practice. That last part was not exactly encouraging, but it did ease Ignis's nerves enough that he didnt' just hop the earliest portal he could and he did make it into the classroom that morning, trying instead not to think about all the strange messages his phone had been receiving, and what kind of Fandom oddness would cause something like that to even happen.

"Good morning, everyone," he said, with a nod to the class as usual. "I was thinking that, today, we might stick a bit with the baking trend we've been on between our bread and our cupcakes, and attempt to tackle something a little more involved in that respect, and that is pies, including making our filling from scratch, which is suprisingly easy and simple to do. Now, it would seem that the most popular choices for filling include apple and cherry, but the nice thing about a pie is that it's very versatile, and I have a wide variety of fruits available for you to choose from, because the instructions on making the filling will be reasonably similar for any of these fruits. Then we will, of course, move onto the crust, put the two of them together, express a little bit of creativity in how we do our top crust, and then have a discussion about the food itself while we wait for our final results."

He gave them a small smile.

"You should be familiar with the drill by now, I hope. So everyone, take a moment to decide on your fruits, and then once everyone has returned to their stations, we shall begin in earnest."

As usual, Ignis goes about his careful and details instructions. He knows pie might be a little more challenging for those in the class who are still firmly in the novice range, but he is confident in their capabilities and cannot imagine anything going too wrong with pies...

Nina was decidedly in the novice range when it came to his sort of cooking (and, like, missing half his classes wasn't helping that) but, on the bright side, she was quite good at her own form of cooking.

A particularly astute observer might even notice that her dress was a bit, ah, dressed-down for today since her plans had noted that it would be hard for her to escape the, ah, carnage today too. Not impossible but, like, hard.

Nina hummed a little as she put her pies together, having chosen blackberries and raspberries for one and blueberries for another (and, yes, she had picked them for how marvelously they stained). She spent more time than was strictly warranted on doing a lattice in pie crust for the tops, if only because she knew that doing such a thing would mean Ignis would almost have to come over to see what she was doing...

And it would be a shame if she didn't get him with this. It really would be.

Honestly, there was no real, logical reason for her pies to explode magnificently as soon as he came over to inspect them.

But they did all the same, sending lashings of berry pie filling everywhere.

"Oops," she said, eyes wide and full of unrepentant laughter.

Hey, at least it wasn't hot pie filling. She hadn't wanted to hurt anyone (including herself)!

Well, Ignis certainly was regretting having worn lighter colors that day, which eas particularly interesting since so much of his wardrobe did tend to lean toward black, and he should know better than to tempt fate by wearing pale tones when cooking with teenagers.

To his credit, he really had not expected to be dealing with exploding pies today, either, which he also felt was perhaps a misstep on his part. Though he might have expected something like that as an accident from one of the other students, he at least had a hard time believing it was truly unexpected from this student.

"Oops?" he asked, surprisingly calm for someone who was currently removing his pie-covered glasses and searching around for any bit of cloth nearby that might have remained out of the blast zone so that he could wipe them off, unless you perhaps paid close attention to the particular stiffness of his jaw. "I daresay, Nina, you may have gone a bit astray with at least one of your ingredients..."

“I mean, like, it might have been the ingredients,” she conceded, swiping a bit of blueberry mixture off her cheek.

She saw that jaw, Ignis.

“Does this mean you’re going to tell me you not sure exactly what has gotten into me today, but it's quite unbecoming??????????”

It hadn’t been the ingredients.
