Have Portal, Will Travel; Tuesday, Fourth Period [03/30].
"Alright, guys," Summer greeted the class with the sort of excited grin that typically might make some of her students a little worried or nervous, because she was clearly a little excited about where they were going that day, and who even knew what that would mean? That was a very wide gammut to run. "Let's keep this short and sweet, not a lot of preamble before we head out today. We're going to be going to a planet in the far reaches of my own galaxy, and it's actually really nice, one of the more beautiful planets I've been to, and there's a lot of gorg planets out there! There's just....one problem with it."
She paused. For dramatic effect.
"And I'm not going to tell you what that problem is."
Of course not!
"I want you guys to see if you can spot the problem and see what ideas you might have to help deal with the problem. Hope you came prepared today! This is definitely going to be a lesson in being ready for anything. So take a few moments to do what you need to do, and when everyone's all set, we'll head on through!"

Screaming Sun Planet - HPWT, 03/30.
It's hard to see anything wrong, really, with such an idyllic place. There's even an orchestra of birdsong rising up from the forest down below.
Summer checked her watch.
"Wait for iiiit...." she said.
Over the mountains on the otherside of the valley, a golden glow started to appear, the sun rising to usher the planet into its next day. And, with it, a low steady droning sound, faintly heard. As the sky brightens, the sound seems to get louder and louder until it's very clear that the sound is screaming, and that screaming is coming from the sun.
Loud, steady, unchanging, unwavering, unceasing sun screaming.
"Okay, guys," said Summer, popping a pair of plugs into her ear, shouting over the screaming so they could hear her. "We're here for the entire class period, our portal's not due back until the end, so anyone got any solutions to help make this more bearable? Might as well try and get comfortable, right?"

"Come in close!" she hollered. "I have something I can try."
Re: Screaming Sun Planet - HPWT, 03/30.
"Will it make things quieter?" Belle yelled back, taking a few steps closer.
Re: Screaming Sun Planet - HPWT, 03/30.
"If it works? Yes. If not? Can't be much worse!"
Illyana, that probably isn't as reassuring as you're hoping.
"I summon forth the shielding powers of the Vishanti," she began, tracing sigils in the air that started to light-up. "And invoke the Seraphim's Silence. By the Wondrous Winds of Watoomb, make my will be known. Sorcerer's Sphere, I am thy focus and thy pivot."
A gesture, and the symbols flew out to hover in a circle around Illyana and Belle, about ten feet out. "So mote it be!"
Instantly, the girls were covered in a black dome, ten feet high and ten feet across, encompassing anyone who'd been too near them. Those looking in from the outside would be unable to see them, but for them, it was if they were looking out tinted car windows.
And it was utterly silent. Illyana was laughing, but there was utterly no sound at all.
Sure, it would make a conversation into Charades, but there was no screaming sun to be heard.

"What did you do??" Belle said. Or tried to. Not that the words were audible.
Re: Screaming Sun Planet - HPWT, 03/30.
I wove a silence spell into the dome! she wrote. So it sucks up all the noise in here. Not bad for a first try.
Yes, Belle, you just got to be part of a magic-science experiment.
It's centered on me, so we can walk around if we want. Or you can step back outside whenever you want. It just blocks sound, not people.
She handed the notebook to Belle, grinning.
Re: Screaming Sun Planet - HPWT, 03/30.
Belle hadn't known Illyana could really make the screaming stop but she was very impressed. Impressed, disconcerted, and very curious.
HOW? was all she wrote before handing back the notebook. Because of course she wanted to know how it worked!
Re: Screaming Sun Planet - HPWT, 03/30.
So, the eye of a hurricane is quiet, right? I wove the concept of the eye of a hurricane into the structure of the shield by manipulating three different spells. Like, a fruit smoothie. Lots of different fruits, and I mashed them up and put them through the blender.
