Have Portal, Will Travel; Tuesday, Fourth Period [03/09].
"Hey, everyone," said Summer from the front of the classroom as usual with a little wave of her hand. "I hope you're feeling both limber in body and mind this afternoon, because we're sort of extending our lesson on defense and fighting and stuff when things go bad with a little exercise in how normal things...like, say," she gestured to the object in question dangling from her mouth, "a toothpick can sometimes be used to defend yourself and probably save your life. That's why I've got Ms. Blackstone here with us today," and now that expressive hand was gesturing toward Amaya, who stood up at the front of the class with Summer, and also lifted a hand in a wave, "with us, because she actually sometimes teaches whole semesters about stuff like this, so she's a good person to have on board if you want to get creative with how to make a bunch of stuff into weapons.
"Now, we are going to the Danger Shop today," she continued, "because I kind of thought about it, and going to a different place expecting to have to fight and possibly kill actual living things was a little fucked up, so we're just running a sim instead. But we are taking a portal," she hitched her thumb over her shoulder to the portal that usually waited for them, "to the Danger Shop, because it's still a portal class."
Plus...hilarious.
"So everyone up, let's get going, and let's see what we can find to help us out. Now, if you are the type that usually has a weapon on you, that's great, but, sometimes, something might happen and you might not have it or something's wrong with it, or who even knows what, anything is possible, so it's still good to have a few backup plans and ideas, too, y'know? Anyway, let's get moving, shall we?"
And, with that, Summer hopped in, Amaya followed, and she expected them to all follow suite or else she'd hop right on back to see if one of those anything is possible scenarios was going on and she'd have to see how taking a portal just to the danger shop had somehow managed to go awry...

Listen to the Lecture - HPWT, 03/09.
"So," she began, pounding a fist into the palm of one of her hand, "makeshift weapons. Now, you see, despite my profession as a blacksmith, I've always preferred the weapons I came equipped with since the beginning, and that's my own two fists, but you all already covered that last week, so we'll go with the next best thing in a pinch, and that's the idea that literally anything can be a weapon. Clearly, you've got things like..." She scanned the nearest hunk of junk, plucking out a long rod of something, "this piece of rebar. Good hitting with something like this. Or, if you've got a file on hand, file that down to a fine point, you've got a spear, a javalin, you name it. Other things might take a little more creativity, like say..."
She found an unevenly broken piece of something that was once a sphere, another piece of scrap that was more flexible than the rebar, and then jammed the end of it into the sphere, picked up a heavy part of what was once an engine and put it into the sphere, and then launched it at a pile, which caused a good deal of it to come clattering down.
"Mini-hand-catapult," she grinned, "just like that! So the whole point of all this is to just look around and try to think of new and interesting ways to make weapons out of what's around you. Nice thing about an excercise like this is you've got some time to think about it, rather than having to think quick on the spot."
"Although I will say this," Summer chimed in, not ominously at all! "There is a lot to be said about the inspiration of a desperate moment."
"'Necessity is the mother of invention,'" Amaya agreed. "So, any questions? I think at this point you're all to go poking around and seeing what you can put together, but if you need any help or guidance, well, I didn't get dragged all the way to the danger shop just to stand around."

And both Amaya and Summer are around to help make suggestions if you're feeling a bit stumped or want to run a few ideas past them.
But also keep in mind that Summer did say something about having to fight and possibly kill things earlier, of course! Which means feel free to mod (or poke for slow fighty action!) the small but viscious little furry creatures (now that you mention it, they're an awful lot like this guy) that will come out from underneath all these junk piles, rather hungry for something that isn't scrap metal and rusted parts.

She did successfully drop what looked like a dented platter on one of those little fuzzy creatures with too many teeth though. And then felt bad about it.
And About that ONE Heap.... - HPWT, 03/09.
You know, something like the fact that it's moving on its own. And breathing.
And is actually carrying a really big wooden telephone pole of a club and is actually a giant trash monster who is definitely not happy about being woken up right now because he, like, literally finally just got to sleep, you guys, ohmygooooooood. So that should be fuuuuuuun!
